Of course there is the accusation of dumbing down of the BBC. However the other channels keep redefining what dumb means.

yep, put me in the Pro Ted group as well.
He's just a dorky F1 nerd like myself (and probably most of us here) and that comes out in his commentary. No complaints |

Ted fan here too. I missed his input when he was missing for a few races.

the things people (in general) forgive ted for are the things they (in general) criticise female interviewers for. which is interesting

There are some very good female presenters in sports TV and Radio, Kelly Kate and Gabby Logan are exceptional. However the bad ones are just annoying to do lead to the suspicion they were selected for reasons of appearance &/or political correctness, not ability.

The only female presenter I don't like is Louise Goodman. But then again, she's not even the worst presenter on the BTCC team.
I can't think of a bad female presenter other than that. The F1, FE and WEC teams are excellent. |

Just changing the subject a little but I noticed that David Coulthard didn't appear in the C4 coverage again this week, does anyone know why? (Sorry, I know this is really none of my business, but I'm just curious that's all).

Anti-Ted here. More than happy he was absent for the weekend especially after what happened.

then again, i don't suppose it matters who you are and what you look like when you're only asking one of two questions: "bad luck, how do you feel?" and "well done, how do you feel?". |

Just changing the subject a bit here in Australia Fox Sports have signed a new 5 year contract to show F1.
Interesting feature is that the streaming service Stan came after the rights and the new contract is said to be $40million/year.That is a huge increase on the last contract and is a lot more than they pay for the Supercars series.Given that most races are on in the middle of the night-Euro races 11pm start-it shows the value of F1 to them and the level of interest. |

I don't like Louise for the same reason I don't like Steve Ryder and Tim Harvey. Steve and Louise make constant references to how much more fun BTCC is than F1 - clearly bitter they are standing in a field in Thruxton, rather than the Monaco Casino. And Tim and Louise spend the entire time sucking up to Jason Plato like he's some sort of motorsport god to rival Senna. I think regardless of gender, those 3 on BTCC have the same problems. I feel they bring absolutely nothing to the show. Addison and Paulo are excellent though. FE and WEC I don't mind. I haven't noticed the issues you have, but perhaps I will now you've mentioned it. I suppose WEC is a little cliche of putting the woman in the pits as a support person rather than a lead - same with SRO come to think of it, but I'm not sure Dakota is still on the broadcasts. |

I don't know what you mean, Plato is hardly given a mention on the coverage these days. And I don't remember Louise saying how much more fun the BTCC is than F1

The camerawork and coverage from Zandvoort today was excellent, except for the contributions from Kravitz that added nothing. With Ant Davidson, Karun Chandock and Jeson Button along with Natalie and David Croft, there is absolutely no need for anyone else on the coverage.

Actually I thought Natalie's FP1 was one of her worst efforts so far, and that's saying something as I feel the commentary box is not her best location. Rachel is much better doing the FP1s.

This feels a bit like the old football pools:
For any combination of event/session/commentator, you can have three that you like and three that you don't. If all of them happen at the same time, YOU WIN! Honestly, the endless "they're good/they were crap/I hate them/they should be yeeted into the sun" is far too petty. Have we collectively fallen into the pit of social media despondency where literally nothing is good enough? I genuinely hope not. |

I really liked Ted telling us about the slope in pit lane, drain and the teams having to work their way around it so that front wings don't scrape - that type of real-world insight is great in my view.
Generally speaking, the commentary team are OK and take your point Greem - I struggle massively with Croft and his high-pitched shrieking but adjust the audio setting to compensate as much as possible - and even a broken clock is right twice per day, so even Croft is sometimes bearable. The quality of footage, cameras, clarity is way, way more than we used to have and we should be grateful for that - which leaves us simply the commentators to pick at, as we do. |

To provide some balance and positive comments, I'm finding Alex Jacques is really settling into his lead commentator role on Channel 4 now. He seems to be more subtle in his delivery and provide more space for his co-commentator to speak, perhaps a result of feeling more comfortable with the experience.

Yes I agree Alex has really settled into his role and has been a great addition, even if I miss Ben

Look ok, I am in the Antipodes so I guess I have my own bias, but I am sick of the George Russell - Lando Norris froth fest that just makes me want to throw up. Yes they are doing a good job but they get more saliva than Mr Seven Time World Champion.
The crap spoken about the Russell quali lap in Spa - "best F1 lap of all time!". Really. Christ I must be blind and stupid then... |

If anyone is wondering about Channel 4's highlight coverage of the next round seeing as it's the mixed up qualifying and sprint race, this is what I emailed and what I received seeing as I couldn't see anything online.

So we have to find out the day after what happens in qualifying? Good luck anyone who tries to avoid who’s on pole for the sprint race!

When I was looking through the TV guide I was a bit disappointed to not see a F1 highlights programme on Channel 4 on the Friday for the qualifying and then a smaller one on Saturday for the sprint race.
