Marshaling

Hi all, New here.

How do I get to be a Marshall, have been to quite a lot of races and am always impressed by the jobs the marshals do (is that enough creeping??!!)
I live in Stroud, Near glos, my local circuit's Castle Coombe (Bringing my car on the track on Saturday, so may need the marshals myself!!) and Thruxton ain't to far either

Any advice??

Cheers, Lee

First, take a look at:

http://www.marshals.co.uk/

-you can download the 'Guide to Marshalling', which will give you the basics of what's involved.

http://www.marshalspost.com/ is also worth a look; both these websites have links to a lot more useful stuff.

Of course, you'll get plenty of advice here - the best advice is 'do it'!

I am a trainee marshal. Although I have not done any circuit marshalling yet. I have done some hill climbs where the marshals are very welcoming. The nearest hill climb to you is Prescot. The chief marshal there is Simon Nettell, just call him and he will sort you out with the events. But I can not remeber his number.

The main thing to do at an event is ask the stupid questions, because one, the other marshals will not mind you asking and two, one day one of those questions might safe your life or a drivers.

But also enjoy your marshalling and see you on the bank one day.

Prescott is 1/2 May. You'll find a large contingent from this site, and you'll be very welcome.

The reasons you should come are:

1) Hill climbing is a great way to learn in relative safety - 1 car at a time and an experienced crew around you.

2) Hill climbing is spectacular. It's a British championship week-end and you really have to see cars that out-accelerate an F1 on a country lane, and most importantly;

3) Lots of beer and crazystu's excellent barbecue and a real chance to socialize amongst like minded people.

I promise you a great time, and lots of good experience. Please join us. pms to me, crazystu, pike or gizmo will get you an entry and a guarantee of good company.

I shall be seeing Adrian on Sunday if you want me to have a word.

I was at Filton for AF's return. I work there which helps. Took shelter under the TV crane for that one.

F1JordanUk - if you want to join us lot at Prescott plus few more ten tenthers than already mentioned PM me for more details, basically turn up and look for all the bods in orange, signing on will be half 8ish Sat morning or 9ish Sunday morning, stay over Sat night if you want to. You have no need to look out for an out of control Jag at Prescott, thats Woolleys special trick at Shelsley Walsh!!!

Sound advice indeed. In marshalling, there is no such thing as a "stupid" question. As you quite rightly say, the "stupid" question might well be the one that saves your life.
