Have a look at LiveForSpeed - from everything I've read and experienced it's pretty good for realistic physics and there's a pretty strong online community behind it.

Works best with a wheel, but fun can be had with nothing more than a mouse

Certainly, I have Live For Speed, although yet to unlock it still, and all i have atm is a mouse, it's pretty playable.

There's a wide range of sims about for PC, some well known such as the GTR series, and others less well known. Download a few demo's, and see what rubs you in the right way!

Personally, i can get very immersed in GTR2 or rFactor.

rfactor is another option, and lots of mods to downnload as well, alothought the online is not as well built up and only certain mods are played. i would definaltey recommend live for speed though. and yes u can be one of the fastest drivers with a mouse. my m8 uses a mouse im still trying to keep up with him, her is seriosuly quick

I have Gtr2 and Rfactor.

Both are amazing.

If you want to get something that has longevity through expancion than buy Rfactor. They just releassed Pikes Peak and it amazing.

there are alot of new mods coming for rfactor that will blow peoples mind.

Google Race Sim Central and look through there forums at the rfactor section and be amazed.
