Father and son team, Peter and Matt Smith are set to make waves in a new Ginetta G55 for Class 3 in the British Endurance Championship as brand new team, Redgate / Virgo Motorsport make their debut in the series.
The car will be run by two time winners of the Le Mans Series GT2 cup, Virgo Motorsport with drivers Peter and Matt being no strangers to the world of endurance racing, having competed in British GT and Britcar intermittently over the past two years in their Ginetta G50.
Whist their 2011 season was interrupted by medical issues, this year will see a sufficiently recovered Peter, assisted by Matt committing to a full season of GT racing for the first time. They have also entered for the forthcoming Britcar 24 hours, when additional drivers will be retained.
Peter said, “We have shown in 2011 we can be competitive when we have a reliable car and to this end we have changed most elements of our racing over the winter in order to secure better results, we will again be looking to Matt to lead the driving effort as he steadily increases his experience.”
Both Peter and Matt are confirmed Ginetta supporters and look forward to the new, more powerful G55 Cup car giving a hoped for boost to a competitive season.
