Mansell to drive for Jordan..

.. at the F1 demonstration in London

I wonder how they're going to make room for him in the car?

I saw our Nige over the winter last year as CART was preparing for the race at St. Petersburg. Nige was preparing for a qualifier to be able to play in the Senior PGA (Pro Golf) Tour. At that time he looked great - trim enough to hop back in and do a few laps.

He may have had his problems before but he seems fit now.

He never has officially retired - think of the sponsorship he could bring to Jordan...hmmmm!

Nigel has never been "unfit".

His problem at McLaren was that he was physically too wide - a build/frame thing rather than being fat.

Nice to see one of the most popular british F1 champions in a car again. The point which is made about Nigels size is very true. He is actualy not that tall (under 6') but has a healthy muscular build. Unfortunatly motor racing now discriminates against everybody except the whippet sized individuals you see in Formula 1. I rememeber reading a very interesting article on just how much harder Mansell had to drive the Ferrari to make up for the weight differential he gave away to Alain Prost.

The brakes also took a hammering due to his weight.

Big drivers are no longer at a disadvantage, because the weight limit includes the weight of the driver these days, and all the cars are well under the weight limit before ballast as well. alex Wurz was another driver whose performances were compromised because of his size (the Bennetton was a heavy car back then and only a small driver could get the whole package down to the weight limit) - but I remember reading that Wurz's McLaren cars perform identically to those of any other McLaren driver because they can do so much with ballaast.

Intersting, but i am sure it must be an advantage to bring a car up to a weight limit with ballast as you can place it low down in the car and move it forward or rearward to change the handling of a car.

He could peddle my car at Spa in September if he wants to. Oops maybe not, I recall the last time he drove a Ford touring Car.

Falling for what exactly? I'm just pleased to see my all-time favourite driver back in an F1 car after 10 years for a brief excursion.
