Since Fisi can't race tomorrow.....
... why doesn't EJ ask Frentzen? He's not doing anything tomorrow (or the rest of the season) ;-)

That would be poetic justice i suppose! I reckon that Eddie Jordan wouldn't ask HH-F if HH-F was the only driver available to him, but even if he did, HH-F would tell him to off!

Jordan to race Frentzen?
Unlikely story of the day? Jordan to try and put Heinz-Harald Frentzen in its vacant car for tomorrow's French Grand Prix!
There would appear to be a number of substantial holes in the plot. First, following on from Giancarlo Fisichella's accident in Saturday untimed practice, the second Jordan has not actually set a qualifying time. Second, having known that he was not going to qualify for the race in an Arrows, Frentzen made plans for an early departure from the circuit in his own plane. And third, having parted company with Jordan in less than pally circumstances last year, the anticipated response from Frentzen might reasonably have been expected to be two fingers. But the latest, we understand, is that Jordan is trying to engineer the situation and that Frentzen didn't actually take off. Jordan might claim force majeure for not qualifying its second car. If it claimed, for instance, that Professor Sid Watkins had said he would rather not see Fisichella in qualifying but that a dispensation could have been sought for him to race - before Watkins quashed that idea on medical grounds - the team might seek the same dispensation for Frentzen. Frentzen, of course, did take part in qualifying, albeit briefly. The German did win the Magny-Cours race in a Jordan three years ago. So the team could reasonably claim that neither he nor the car would be any embarrassment. Finally the question of Frentzen's willingness itself. Well, we're a bit stumped there, but let's just say that with Eddie Jordan involved, nothing is an impossibility... source: www.autosport.com This would be good, if it happens. |

According to this article from Crash.Net, it's as good as a done deal! Frentzen will start tomorrow's race from P20 for Jordan!

Oh - this is great!!!
"Motorsport's governing body, the FIA, has given its consent under the force majeure rule for Frentzen to race for the team from the back of the grid on Sunday. An FIA statement explained that the deal could go ahead "provided that there are no contractual difficulties and provided that all the teams competing in the 2002 French GP agree in writing by 0915 on Sunday 21st July 2002." Arrows can only stop the move on contractual grounds as it is not a competitor in the race. If it raises no objections and the other teams agree, the grid will be back up to 20 cars for tomorrow." |

Apperantly, Eddie and Heinz are on speaking terms again... Funny, in the same weekend Ricardo Zonta paid his former team a visit. Just one big drivers-reunion |

I just read the original report on F1 ITV website and laughed. Thought this was the biggest joke of the season.
Can't believe this is actually going to happen. EJ must have been on his knees begging. Why would HHF want to go back? |

Just read this on the Swedish broad-casting TV4:"Heinz-Harald Frentzen said to the german television ARD that he don't want to race for Jordan tomorrow!
It is now possible that Ricardo Zonta, who's already on the circuit, maybe step in the car of Fisichella tomorrow. Or another option would be Dutchman Jos Verstappen, who was in talks with Jordan earlier this year." And so, the drama continous... |

Verstappen in talks with Jordan?? This year? Eddie isnt that desperate, is he?
If I hads to choose between someone who hasnt raced any car since last season, or a driver who is known to the team, somewhat of a talent, available and present, and who is starring in the Formula Nissan-series, it would be kinda easy... But then again, maybe its best if Jordan just sit this one out and let Sato do the honors... |

aparenttly he'll be starting from P20 tomorrow as long as all the other teams give written agreement by 9:15am, the only way Arrows can prevent him from racing is if there is a clause in his contract. however i see it unlikely that Arrows would object as i'm sure they want there drivers to get as much driving done as possible whilst the team is in turmoil so that when they do return they don't have 2 drivers who haven't been driving for a while!
