Button's attitude

Contrary to JV, he presents himself as such a nice guy. I wonder how he really thinks? JV is already playing games but he seems impervious. Still three more months to wait!!

Jensons a cool customer, i don't think that JV will rattle him, and even if he (JV) does, i don't think that he (Jens) will allow the public to see it.

Well, seeing what he has done with previous team mates, I believe Jenson will have a tough time.

I think the big difference could be Dave Richards backing of Jenson, especially given the 'war of words' between DR and JV during the latter part of this year.

That may be true. Every article I read about the team it gets clearer that they are just waiting for JV's contract to end so they can carry on with their lives. He almost sounds unwanted. I still like JV's racing. I am still holding on to the hope that he and BAR come to some kind of agreement after 2003. I mean an agreement to continue racing for the team.

As was said in a different thread, it would be good to see Anthony Davidson and Jenson in a team together and that could happen at BAR next year?

The Bennetton was so bad in the beginning of the previous year, and JB let his attitude drift a bit to start with - but I wouldn't say that Fisi overwhelmed him in the latter part of 2001...

And then there's his rookie year, which although not spectacular was at least very professional and showed consistent improvement to the point where he was giving Ralf a hard time by the end of the season.

Granted, Jaques is in a different league to JB's previous team-mates (Ralf included) but I'd stil have to say that Jenson's performances against his team-mates have been pretty good. He was very unlucky to miss the podium in Malaysia too - only a broken anti-roll bar let Schumacher past him right at the end.

He will force an honest effort out of Jaques, no doubt. I'd like to see a price for Jenson to beat Jaques in 2003 - what would you guys reckon? 2 to 1? At odds of 2 to 1 I'd put money on Jenson... I am convinced that it will be very much closer between them than most people think.

Most of Button's points came at the beginning of the year, while Trulli outscored him in the latter half, not to mention that Trulli truly was the better qualifier. Button is a decent driver, but a world beater? I thinl I'll keep my money in my pocket.

I agree but Jenson seems to have matured. He once seemed to be the case of a driver who got famous before he got good. However he has really "pulled his socks up", so to speak.

About JV, he may have the mind games but he doesn't have the one thing that Jenson has over him: Youth.

Jenson can afort to wait...

Cheers,

Valve Bounce has been held in scrutiny for further testing
Seeing that BAR will be taking the Friday testing option, it will be interesting to see how the test drivers lap against the racers.
It is most unfortunate that Sato will be the reserve driver at BAR, which will deprive Ant of any chances of racing at BAR next year.

enemy-ace, most people expected Jenson's performance to 'tail off' towards the end of the season and that was because it was known he was leaving the team. Under those circumstances any driver would not be given the latest technology to use, nor the bulk of the testing for obvious reasons. Martin Brundle said on several occasions that Jensons performance would suffer as a result of the teams decision to drop him this year.

I agree Stephen, Bunsen did well just to stay competitive. I'm sure Renault would have loved to see Trulli score more points once the decision had been made, so the fact he ended the season with substantially less than Bunsen is a credit to Bunsen's early season form when he had equal status in the team.

I also think it is worth pointing out that the WDC is decided on points scored throughout the season. So I am not quite sure about enemy-ace's point, as far as the records show Bunsen out-scored Trulli, when those points were scored is irrelevant.

And Trulli had more problems at the beginning of the year (when in points positions and the car was more competitive).

It all probably evens itself out. (?).

I'm not sure Renault were that bothered who scored more points (Trulli or Button). Flav. is the sort of person who can take that. Probably doesn't care (and he is involved!)

When and how the points were scored isn't irrelevant when team bosses chose their drivers. However Button out-scored him so in the future anyone looking to see who came 7th and 8th in the 2002 world championship will know Button finished ahead!

Anyway the choice wasn't really between Trulli and Button, more like Alonso and Button (Button outscored him too!). It might not even have been that. Trulli was on a 2 year contract (and when this was decided Button had been destroyed by Fisi). Alonso was signed clearly with the intention of putting him in the car in 2003 (they even tried to get him in 2002, but Buttons contract was a bit too good!).

Button needed to destroy Trulli to have any chance (IMO) and it was probably more like a draw (IMHO).

But now Button is in going into his 4th year of F1 and each year he has had a works (engine) deal. Not bad really.
