Into the 19's and Button goes top in a late run. Pizzonia is looking quick so perhaps that new nose is working well?
Massa stopped early in the session but no details. Maybe a 10 place penalty on its way for him? Again the chart is courtesy www.formula1.com. 1 9 Jenson Button BAR-Honda 1:19.556 2 1 Michael Schumacher Ferrari 1:19.747 3 2 Rubens Barrichello Ferrari 1:19.768 4 4 Antonio Pizzonia Williams-BMW 1:19.913 5 7 Jarno Trulli Renault 1:20.130 6 10 Takuma Sato BAR-Honda 1:20.363 7 8 Fernando Alonso Renault 1:20.363 8 3 Juan Pablo Montoya Williams-BMW 1:20.480 9 16 Ricardo Zonta Toyota 1:20.606 10 6 Kimi Räikkönen McLaren-Mercedes 1:20.614 11 17 Olivier Panis Toyota 1:20.689 12 5 David Coulthard McLaren-Mercedes 1:20.914 13 14 Mark Webber Jaguar-Cosworth 1:21.112 14 11 Giancarlo Fisichella Sauber-Petronas 1:21.165 15 15 Christian Klien Jaguar-Cosworth 1:21.390 16 18 Nick Heidfeld Jordan-Ford 1:21.712 17 12 Felipe Massa Sauber-Petronas 1:21.989 18 19 Giorgio Pantano Jordan-Ford 1:23.083 19 20 Gianmaria Bruni Minardi-Cosworth 1:23.979 20 21 Zsolt Baumgartner Minardi-Cosworth 1:24.522 |

Looks like Bridgestone have a massive advantage, and then BAR, Williams, Renault and McLaren are evenly matched behind them.

DC did a solid lap.
McLaren are on hard tyres and probably fuelled for two stops. |

Or Barrichello actually trying to race and actually taking out Michael into Turn 1

We will see.
I think a lot depends on temperatures. McLaren want it as hot as possible. Ferrari don't. There may be bridgestone graining problems, apparently. |

Why did Klien get penalised?
If the rain hindered anyone, it was the guys who should've challenged Ferrari, not the Ferraris, which is a shame. Michael's in a very strong position considering that, in colder conditions, Rubens should've been favoured on the softer tyres. Webber, Pizzonia and Sato all looked quite impressive, and Zonta should be happy to run Olivier close. |

Bravo Fisichella - outqualifies the man he is replacing!
A bit off topic - have we had a wet race yet this year? Last edited by Inigo Montoya; 14 Aug 2004 at 13:30. |

McLaren would want it as hot as possible KB, you're right. But really, it is almost irrelevant as they are 10th and 12th on the grid. Race compromised before it's started.
