Total crapshoot.

It's already been announced that JR Hildebrand will fill Newgarden's seat for Road America.

Well, I'll give a bit of introductory material here then.

Circuit: Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
Length: 4.048 miles (6.514km)
Turns: 14 (10 right, 4 left)
Lap Record: 1:39.866 (145.924mph), Dario Franchitti, 2000
Race Record: 55 laps, 1:37:00 (137.697mph), Christian Fittipaldi, 1999
Active Years: CART (1982-03), CCWS (2004, 2006-07), 25 races

On that 1999 race, it was run without caution. However, it was fully re-started after an accident at Turn 1 on the initial start. The 2000 race was also caution-free.

It's hard to say just how overall lap speed will compare for the new cars with the 1999-2000 CART machinery. The current cars may make more downforce, will likely take come of the corners faster, and very possibly, have better braking. On the other hand, there's no way the DW12 can match the 210-mph top speeds seen with CART back around 2000, and those three long straights do matter in terms of lap time.

It should be fun to see what happens come this weekend.

At the end of P2 today, 1:43...

Might be able to take another 1/2-1-1/2 out as the track rubbers in fully.
