Crash and Burn should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
M Schu - is he worth it?

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER, who today (Thursday) turned 33, has insured himself for a total of $81m for the 2002 F1 world championship, Sport Bild reported this week.

His annual premium alone will ammount to $5.67m - a lifetime fortunate to the vast majority of people inhabiting the earth.

The report says Lloyds of London will pay out $20m in the case of him being permanently disabled and that his family would receive $10m in the case of a fatal accident.

It also claims that the policy would pay the four-time world champion $3m for any Grand Prix event he might miss due to injury such as the broken leg he suffered in the 1999 British Grand Prix.

On that occasion he competed in only two races after his accident

Ferrari, who are said to pay Schumacher at least $25m a year, have also taken out a policy covering their commitments to their ace driver, but the figures are not revealed in the report, and it all confirms Schumacher's place as one of the highest-paid sportsmen and entertainers in the world

Is he really worth it?

Ahemm - that's assuming the whole insurance industry does not go 'belly up' after the Sep 11th claims. A mate who is well, well up in that sector reckons the whole thing is very wobbly. If one goes down - it could be a 'domino run'.

My experience of insurance (having suffered a major flood and a nicked car) is that, come the claim time the beggars always find a way of wriggling out!

Wot's the excess on the policy? £19.95M?
