Your Favourite Team
Stealing the idea from DNQ...
There are alot of new teams added to the fray this year. Got an early-season favourite? For me, I've gotta go with Fittipaldi/Dingman. Not once this year has Emerson been interviewed while he wasn't wearing an ear-to-ear grin. Here's a man who is still living him dream, and I wish he and Monteiro the best of racing luck. I've also become a big fan of Paul Gentilozzi's. Although I give kudos to Forsythe for keeping the series alive in the first place. And to Paul Newman for keeping Haas out of the IRL. To Eric Bacheleart for his commitment. Likewise Craig Pollock. And Adrian. To Coyne for returning time and again. To Walker for keeping it a two-chassis series. And to Pat Patrick for being steadfast in his beliefs. Know what? I like all of 'em and picking a favourite is hard to do. |

I like all the teams, but Herdez Competition is a bit of a personal favourite, with two of my favourite drivers.

my personal favourite is the Players/Forsythe team, ever since 1997 and that brilliant rookie fighting wheel to wheel with Michael Andretti and dropping jaws before Montoya was around....Greg Moore. Plus the sky blue colour schemes get me every time!

Yeah, I gotta go with Player's/Forsythe as well. But Rocketsports is a close second. They've really done a good job, and they've got Tag. That helps too.

The Forsythe cars, while great, make me sad. I can't help thinking of Greg Moore. The most talented driver in CART of his generation? I thought so, at times. F1 seemed so much a possibility. But then Fontana... A black, black day; and that not long after Gonzalo Rodriguez was killed at Laguna.
Sorry; got a bit maudlin. My current favourite? I think Newman-Haas; you gotta love those guys. But a big "Yay!" for Gerry Forsythe and Bobby Rahal too. |

Oh, I don't know.
Rahal has Jourdain. Plus I always liked Bobby. Herdez did the right thing by hiring Moreno, plus they were always 'the little guy' and I always support the little guy. Forsythe because he's a great guy trying keeping CART alive. Plus I will always have a fond spot for them because of No. 99. Newman/Haas and Patrick for their continued support of CART despite everyone else packing their bags. And all those new teams for joining the fray. |

My pick is Conquest for coming back to CART and for supporting Emmo. Although who would have thought Herdez would be so strong this year?

IMO Gentilozzi has taken the exact right approach to CART. He's doing things the old fashioned way. He's built up a team and expects progress, not immediate victories. He has more sponsorship then the rest of the teams yet keeps the team 1 car to ensure that they don't get ahead of themselves or screw up the fragile balance. Many have been wary of what he'll be like in the future when the team is suppose to be 'there' if it doesn't happen.
Forsythe really droped the ball in '99 sticking with the uncompetitive Mercedes engine. As a results Greg had a lot less legacy then he should have had. Greg Moore's CART career did not relect the talent he had or the success he could/should have had during it's short run. In terms of raw talent only JPM has impressed me more in recent years. (that includes F1 drivers) Forsythe has also had a spotty record on setups. We saw some of that in the European races. They seem to really nail it or really screw it up. It was quiet irritating when Dixon ruined his youngest driver win record on a fuel run. That's the only fuel run result that has really rubbed me the wrong way. For me, Walker definetly, ever since I have been watching ChampCars Derrick's team has always been my favourite, He seems like a nice guy, hired the right drivers (yeh, some of them are paying, but still) and has had the nicest liveries ever, I was first a fan of Gil De Ferran because he drove for Walker

I agree with DNQ – like all the teams too. But until now I think the biggest step made the surprising Herdez Team, pushing both drivers into the top ten standings: Dominguez 5th and Moreno 8th. Hope we will see some race wins next...

If the Players cars make you sad because of Moore, just remember Homestead that season, pole position, win and championship lead. At Fontana he was easily the fastest car on the track until his crash, he died doing what he loved-raceing wheel-to-wheel.

Speaking of cigs, has Forsythe found a replacement for Players? |

The rumor that I've heard is that Forsythe has some "major European company lined up" but is not saying who as of yet. I think they might pick up sponsorship as soon as the tobacco laws kick in, around October or something. But this is just what I've heard...

Well my favorite team would have to be Players Forsythe. An excellent supporter of Canadian talent, I will be sad to see them go.

I don't have any specific favourite team, but I like the Conquest/Fittipaldi-Dingman setup, foir all the reaasons discussed. It's one in the eye for Tony George for a strong IRL team to switch to CART and run well, and Emmo has been a great supporter of CART over the years. What's more, they've unearthed 2 great talents in Haberfeld and Montiero.

Player's/Forsythe forever. Even when it was only Player's Green in 1995. I'm a Player's man I guess, ever since Jacques, and of course Greg.
