JIMGOD should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Donington Park 19th October AMOC

Can't believe less than a week to go and nobody started thread on this meeting.

Couple of Newbies again to look after as usual.

Programme looking good but as usual at Donington could be a late finish with a 40 minute race starting at 17:30.

First time I have marshalled at Donington for over 10 years, I stopped going because of the late finishes, however I have every confidence that AMOC will get on with it, if not it might be another 10 years!! Does anyone know the entry list?

Yes, nearly 170 cars.

And the last race (40 mins.) is scheduled for 17:25.

Anybody got a spare ticket if I need one? I only signed up on Monday, so I'm not necessarily expecting to receive anything - will still turn up of course

Just a reminder. The Copice tunnel is now closed. Access to sign-on is in through the main paddock gate, right into assembly and on to the circuit at the Melbourne loop. Exit at the inside of Redgate and down to the Craner suit from there.

I have put my name down to attend today at my uni.

So I'll be one of the newbies (second meeting).

Have a good 'un - no Chrissy with lollipops this meeting (dragging her off to a non-marshalling day in Yeovil), so you'll need to stock up with pork pies if you want to attract plenty of action

Cheers, David

Don't think it would be possible Danny, because I will be catching a lift and I think there is about 15 of us going to marshal.

Newbie well almost 2 pit fires later.

The words of advice about being cold wet and bored didn't ring true then the car drove down the pits on fire leaving a trail of burning fuel.

That was after one burst into flames on the entry to the pits.

Who said doing pits was boring and a safe enviroment for newbies.

Thanks Jim.

Danny where in notts are you pm me and i'll see if we come past you.

Well done to everybody for clawing back the half-hour we were behind after the first race so the last race actually started 5 minutes early - other clubs take note, please. Judicious cutting down of ALL races, even when we were back on schedule.

Finishing 8 races before 6pm at Donington must be some sort of record. And, hopefully enough to keep KayBee happy.

Not sure what caused the red. There was an awful lot of very black smoke, though.

And the weather played ball as well. A bit cold and windy but at least dry. I had a student on my post and was a little surprised that he hadn't been properly told what to bring with him (eg layers of clothing, warm drinks, the basics). He was very cold in the morning but we managed to kit him out with a few bits and pieces (woolly hat, bodywarmer) so he lasted the day quite well.

Not a classic meeting, but some lovely (and unusual) cars and some good racing through the fields.

And now its into hibernation.................

I don't think that's an isolated incident Shelagh. At Snetterton in March we had a student on post who had no warm clothing (fortunately after a cold start it turned into a gorgeous spring day & I ended up being the one who regretted the thermals ), training shoes, no gloves & no food or drink. I'd be interested to hear from someone in the know if the colleges issue a basic kit list or give a briefing.

The red was caused by an Aston (don't know which one) hitting the pit wall.

From what another student has told me who was on start finish straight: An N24 had a spin out of Goddards (think that is the right name) and managed to get back on and then one of the next cars did the same thing but went into the pit wall backwards and snapped his rear axle as well as his fuel tank I think, spilling fuel and oil all over the pit entry. Also just before the crash, car #3 was being reported to race control by my post for a possible leak.

Also who was the student you kitted out? PM me if you don't want to post their name here.

Think it might have been Car number 57 spinning at pit entrance then bursting into flames

Obviously not one of my recruits, maybe now he will explain to all his friends what to wear and bring next time.

Some fantastic racing and agree it was very well sorted out after 1st race.
Wind got very strong and cold though.

A good meeting for my only visit to Donington this year - AMOC never disappoints!

My quiet season continued at Redgate, although I did wonder what sort of a day we were going to have when we had to call for a snatch a couple of minutes into the first practice session!
