I like the idea of a staring grid. My money's on Spatsky, of course.

The race today. Winner Alex Lloyd, that's now 4 in a row. At one time he was 3.5 seconds ahead of the nearest challenger but the third yellow allowed the pack to close up again. Fortunately Alex made a brilliant start in every one of the three / four hold ups for yellow and maintained his lead all the way to the chequered flag.
Seems more than probable one of the Indycar team owners will be pencilling in his name for next years series already. He was described by the commentators as an exceptional driver as his record this year suggests |

Really dominant win by Lloyd. Another driver somewhat forgotten and overlooked in Europe making a name for himself in the US. Love to see him at Ganassi next year.God job by Losch to. Must feel great getting a pole at the brickyard, especially at 46 (i think).

And Alex takes win #5 out of 5, takes pole, led every lap, gets fairly easy race win. And it;s not actually that easy on these short ovals, when you lap everyone up to 3rd place - was great to watch!

Alex wasn't overlooked in Europe, by the way ... but unless you have ridiculous amounts of money behind you, howsoever sourced, you're going nowhere. In the US it;s different ... talent and personality is recognised, and if there's anyone out there who wants to progress but doesn't have the backing of a Hamilton or Conway or whoever, then come to the US ... if you have the talent and if you are a nice guy/girl, you won't find a better opportunity in my view

Mr. J....., he deserved that break. I hope he'll get contract in ICS, he deserves it.
Don't want him to finish like some of the past IPS champions, he is to good to be thrown away. Keep it that way, Alex. |

His run had to end sometime, but two seconds is some consolation, and second from 7th on the reverse grid on Sunday is non to shabby. Hoping that normal service will be resumed on Sunday at The Iowa Speedway.

Ben Petter (qualifying spin) and Ken Losch (blown engine) didn't turn qualifying times, but will be in the race tomorrow starting at the back.

Actually teams in the US do appear to have budgets and hire drivers without them bringing money. There are also a lot of big companies in America and the home market is massive. You cannot imagine CO OP late shops being involved in any form of racing sponsorship here in the UK, but in the US 7 Eleven of course are one of Andretti Greens sponsors.

There are some pay drivers in the league, but I'd say that MOST of the cars are a combination of driver and team money and that very few teams are solely propped up by the driver, and those that are are owner-drivers (like Potekhen).
