Racewear North-West?

I need a helmet and race suit and realised Grand Prix Racewear only have 1 retail shop and that is in Silverstone. Are there any shops in the North-West selling racewear that you can go in and try things on etc? I need FIA homologated racewear. Cheers.

I think Demon Tweeks is about the only one.

There is also EARS in Macclesfield (http://www.ears.co.uk/), but they tend to have a limited stock, so check with them first.

That's in Wiltshire though, which isn't in the North West.

10/10 for that one

But the internet is a wonderful thing, it means you don't have to be based where the supplier is to be able to buy goods.

Yes, but the original poster asked for somewhere he could 'go in and try things on'

That he did I can't disagree, but with the help of a good supplier he could probably save himself a trip and buy online. If he wasn't happy with the goods I'm sure most would be happy for him to return them.

I run an online store for PPE myself and supply people all over the UK without any problems. It's just a matter of finding a supplier you can work with and that gives good service; not one of these faceless companies that you can never get hold of.

Talking of race wear, if you do a test day at a UK circuit does anyone check your clothing is in date? Or can you wear older overalls and not worry about oil and muck on them, and save your best ones for racing? Has anyone had the tags checked on a test day, is what I'm getting at

Take a holiday in NZ and we'll fit you out either off the shelf or to your own design, before your holiday is over!!! We'll even get one of our female staff to measure you for no extra charge....

Track days, you can also get away with out of date seat belts, or don't they check the dates in the UK, just the condition?

I wondered this too. Because obviously the blue book says you have to have FIA homologated racewear or similar, so does anyone actually check if you have the appropriate stuff on a general test day?

No they don't, although the regs may require you to wear a "fireproof" suit.

But you'd want to anyway wouldn't you? After all you xcould still have an accident in a test ;-)

Hey --- I have never had clothes checked at a test day, but would you want to run the risk of wearing old or damaged clothes - accidents are just as likely if not more so in testing than in racing.....If your car did catch fire- heaven forbid --- what would you want to be wearing - correct nomex - fire proof equipment of old clothes covered in oil that would burn really well????

In regards to clothing and race safety equipment, we stock and sell alpinestars racewear, as some have said, I can supply these through the web or over the phone for you to try on in the comfort of your own home and return if need be - or hopefully keep and enjoy wearing!

I will be up at Oulton Park next weekend if you wanted to come and have a look at anything specific, I don't mind bringing it with me.

Thanks
