High definition TV?
Is anyone planning to buy a High Definition TV for use with the Xbox 360 and PS3?
I was suprised to learn that SKY HD will launch in early 2006, and with plummiting HD LCD/Plasma prices I may have to pick one up. I'm thinking of connecting my PC to a HDTV, using a HDMI connection, just for playing sims. http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-...ws.php?id=8294 http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds19617.html |

If you're going for a hi def screen, go for Panasonic, and avoid ALIS screens (Sony, Hitachi etc).

Whats ALIS?
I've just read Sony have dropped Plasmas, LCDs are the future apparently. |

High definition CRT sets are already fairly popular in the States, once Sky launch their HD service I expect we'll see plenty for sale over here giving people a cheaper alternative to Plasma, LCD and rear projection.

I have a 65" Mitsubishi Rear-Projection HDTV, and although I love it to death, current infrastructure does it absolutely no justice.
Here in the states there are very few HDTV broadcasts to tune into, and when they are they are the 4 or 5 local metro stations and not the other 100+ stations that you usually watch via cable or satelite. Cable and satelite both offer high deff options that give you an additional half-dozen or so, so if you are lucky and have tons of loose change you could have perhaps 10-12 HDTV channels. VOOM is an all-HDTV satellite service, but even it only has some 20-odd niche channels. My old girl looks great when a DVD is on, or using my XBox / PS2 with component video cables. But for the large majority of my TV time (well, the TV time spent on the couch with my remote-control-wielding wife) is spent watching cable channels with a picture that is actually worse than it would be with a smaller, non-HD telly. |

Looks good. Nice price too. I see Samsung are going to release a duel HD-DVD/Blue-Ray player, if indeed we do end up having two HD formats. Hopefully all the manufactuers will go down this route. |
