Minardi Engine: 2002
Does anyone have a clue to what engine that Minardi will have in 2002? Considering that Asiatech is going to Prost and the secondhand Cosworths will probably go to Arrows, and that the boss for Renault Sport says they won't put out customer engines, what engine does Minardi have? What options besides another awful refurbishment of the '98 Cosworth?

Ferrari or Mugen Honda.
Otherwise it's those ruddy Cosworths AGAIN... |

I think (hope) it could be Asiatech, I know I've said bad things about them in the past, but according to a magazine they are building a totally new engine for next year. That could be the 'works' Stoddart was talking about

Paul Stoddart could try Skoda. He would only need minor alterations, like handles on the side pods and additional rear wings so that it would be easier to push start.

Alonso's deal to drive for Minardi next season is signed and sealed. Apparently.

Minardi - Ferrari engines, I should think...
Asiatech are buying out part of Prost, and will have a chunk for free, in return for the engines... Arrows will have a customer supply from Ford of current Cosworth engines That leaves a Ferrari engine deal floating around, if Paul can get the money for it - £17 million |

Hi folks
There were rumours abound of a Mercedes supply but I think that was just wishful thinking. It would be great if it was true - anything would be an improvement on those dreadfully slow Cosworths. There now follows a Public Service Announcment: Apologies to the Moderators and Totally off-topic: Total-F1 - will you please check your private messages? I've lost your email address (changed my computer and everything prior to March vanished into thin air). Cheers Suzy |

Mercedes is always an outside bet - but looking at it now, Ferrari must be the most likely option.

Just Paul supposedly has at least six different engines to choose from. Oh! the pain of it all!!
A run-down of what is available: Asiatech - with Arrows this year, and most likely going to Prost for 2002. Would take a major rethink by Asiatech to go to Minardi Ferrari - desirable but would be far too expensive for the little team, unless Alonso (who is signed, sealed and delivered for 2002) gets a very expensive team-mate, or Just Paul is able to sign a major sponsor (where are you Australian companies????) Renault/Supertec - now Minardi could either receive 2 year old Supertecs or this years engine that Benetton use. Which one would YOU choose? Frankly, the older one had more grunt! Like the Ferrari, could be expensive but it might work out Ford '98 - the engine Minardi have been using for 4 years now. Underpowered, overweight and too old. Need to get rid of it although has been faithful. Ford 2001 - rumours are abound that Just Paul has been trying to start negotiations with the Jaguar bosses to receive this years engine. Wouldn't be a bad choice, but like others, expensive. Mugen/Honda - someone mentioned Mugen above. Minardi almost received Mugen in 1995 before it was knicked by Ligier. And I doubt it would happen because the Honda factory themselves are already supplying two teams. The mystery engine - no-one knows what this engine is???? Some have said it is an engine from an Asian company, but surely they would have announced it now. Names thrown around have been Audi and others. |
