Historic Touring Cars At Bathurst
I am of the opinion that the Historic Tourers will be extremely popular at Bathurst this year. Now I am probably biased but I can envisage a time in the not so distant future where their popularity will outshine the Supercars, what does everyone else think?

Its a good show, they need some more publicity though....
I can imagine if some former stars got guest drives (DJ in a Stang, PB in that purkle Torrie...) the profile would be raised significantly The sweet sounds of a Tilley GTHO which sound so close to a Supercar its not funny is something to be savoured... |

Well, they tried to have a Historic Touring car race at Bathurst last year, but they all ended up running into each other.
Are they on the support bill??? |

And David 'Hollywood' Paterson got more TV time than anyone parked next to the side of the road
It's amazing that the Groups As and Cs are probably more popular and valuable than they ever have been |

Is this a poor reflection on V8 supercar racing and the personalities involved or a poor reflection on Avesco and the way they run the series.

Probably not the personalities, people still rock up to see Marcos and Lowndsey, and seeing Murph spit the dummy is all a part of the attraction. I think the good close racing, the 'I remember those' factor, and the fact that a Mini can stick it up a gazillion horsepower gorilla make the oldies goodies

Some great things came out of the 1960s and 70s (end of story). The music and the cars from the era stand alone as icons and don't need any help or hindrance from AVESCO!! BTW Good Luck to Hollywood Patterson this year - give em heaps Dave |

We tried to have two races last year, but unfortunately over driving in the Konicas got our Televised race shortened and over driving by a couple of guys who weren't quite at the front got it canned. I bet AMC were seriously unimpressed! Hopefully, calm heads will prevail this year and all 3 races will take place without a drama.

The Field
Anyone know the 2003 Bathurst Historic Field yet?
This weekend I prep car and camping gear before blastoff on Wednesday week I've got a good feeling about Bathurst this year... Great to hear the politicians announcing the $10 million dollar track upgrade again (Yawn, Yawn, Yawn) BTW any 10/10's Marshals from overseas coming down under this year? If so, give me a hoy! |

The supa taxi's are ok and the 24hr is great but the Touring Cars of the past 60,70 and 80's are something else.
To hear those little rotaries scream their heads off and the old carby V8's rubble past what a buzz.. |

Most of the front runners from the Biante National series have pulled out of Bathurst at the last minute and we have ended up with just 43 cars. Still should be really good racing though. I can't wait.

The group N's can put on a better show than the Supercars - the variety is one thing, but also because they are generally overpowered, undertyred and driven by enthusiastic amateurs, they are exciting to watch. |

I think their is a bit of romantic revisionism involved in all this as well.

They are blaming a combination of drains on time and funds. With Bathurst they are facing a round every month from June to December, all over Australia and all while trying to maintain a job or run their own business.

fair e'nuff - everybody has to sort out their own priorities.
"romantic revisionism" - can't argue with that. Nostalgia is a powerful force. Can I tell the missus that somebody called me romantic today? Maybe that wouldn't be a good idea |

Maybe Ryan McLeod would have been as good a choice? Hopefully they will roll out as many cars as they can from the museum as well? |

Peter McLeod's son Ryan will be busy preparing the Smiths Trucks entry, you would think he would have got the gig over Brock Jr... maybe he couldnt drag himself away from the Citroen dealership long enough
So what about the 1993, 1995 and 1997 Bathurst winners, they are still around, and while not all pristine, could have been run for this kind of display.... |

Might I suggest that Messers Brock (SNR), Perkins, Richards, Tander and Bignose will all be a little busy as well.
Twenty minutes wont hurt the preparation of Smithy's rig, or if it does need it, it may be a little late by Sunday morning! |

Well we ended up with 42 cars and all three races went the full distance, though there were a couple of safety cars. Glad to see almost everyone kept a cool head and we've already been invited back for next year.
