Chimay
Hopefully someone can help.
I'm making my annual trip to the Nuerburgring this weekend and deceided to give myself more time than usual. As such I am planning on visiting and searching out some other road courses on the way there and back. On the way there I'm going to head for Zolder (probably won't be able to drive that one)and then onto Grenzlandring. On the way back head for Mettet then on down to Chimay. I have found all 3 historic road circuits on the local maps (on maporama.com and others) by getting the old circuit diagrams from various websites to fit the roads on the map (actually very easy). However while I have found the 'Old' Chimay circuit I have seen diagrams of the 'New' circuit but can't find any reference to where it actually is. Also looking at the local maps I can't get it to fit the roads. Can anyone help |

Yep. If you have the Michelin yellow book Chimay is on page 12, square B/C3. If you were to drive south eastish from Beaumont (B2) on the N53, the circuit joins this road from the right. You'll then pass a bus stop type chicane, and an old race control building on a downhill section, and then at the next junction the circuit turns right. On the map this is a yellow road, the N593 direction Salles, Trelon. The circuit then turns right, onto a white road on the map,up to a T junction, right again, and back to where you came in. There are a couple of other bus stop chicanes on the circuit.
I suppose if I was really smart I'd scan the map and post it here, but I've not done that before, and also must dash right now. Maybe try later. Be very interested to see the info you've gleaned so far, on the historic circuits. Heebee |

Excellent, thanks for the info, the online map from maporama.com didn't show the road going north which was why I couldn't get it to fit.
I've managed to glean quite a bit of info off the net and GEL Motorsport has a lot of circuit diagrams with a bit of info. Grenzlandring I first heard about when someone produced a Grand Prix legends version. This is an oval around the Village of Wegberg in Germany (West of Munchengladbach) and on maporama the roadname on the map is actually still Grenzlandring. Mettet I'm struggling to find any info on. I only just found it a couple of days ago on the GEL site. It's a figure of 8 track (2 triangles) south of Mettet and was used in the 50's but also more recently although only using the southern triangle, with a couple of Bus-stop chicanes. Chamany I'd heard about years ago but rediscovered in Motorsport Mag in last December edition. I'd never heard of the new circuit until search on the net the last few days. Definately looking forward to a drive around this one. There are loads of tracks I'd love to have a drive around in Germany (Public road circuits) but are a bit too far east for this trip. 2 of them are Schottenring looks great and I've managed to trace the 75 mile route of the Taunus 'circuit' used in 1907. I drove Reims about 5 years ago and keep meaning to visit Rouen, but always seem to run out of time when in the area. The 3 circuits I will be visiting I'll get some incar 'laps' and put them on the net when I get back. |

Great weekend and mostly good weather.
Didn't make it to Grenzlandring as the weather was good on the Friday and didn't want to waste dry laps at the ring. Went to Mettet and Chimay on the way back, Mettet is obviously still in use as they were building a new chicane when I was there. Chimay lap was spoiled as the local plod were stopping almost every car that drove past them (they were 100yds from the pit building). For in-car laps of the 2 circuits have a look HERE Also has some nuerburgring laps. |

From what I've seen the Schottenring used today is a small purpose built circuit rather than the old road course.
That could be a trip for next year. |

Actually, the Schottenring is still a street circuit, but it only uses a tiny portion of the original couurse. Still holds historic bike races though.

Speed,
The new circuit at Chimay is very obvious when you are there, it's just unfortunate the local fuzz were taking a keen interest in the traffic in the area on the day I was there. |

Crystal palace, half the circuit is still drivable, so If you ever are in south east london head up the hill. If you can find a nice parkkeeper he may lat you onto the north tower and fishermans sections too (although these are greatly reduced in width after recent council bucthery. Brooklands GP academy own a large chunk of banking and if you ask nicley they will let you drive on it.
