Kato is right in english writing. In japanese pronounciation, it is called Katoh. but, it really doesn't matter. it's personal preferance if you want to put h or not.

Its a bit like Juan Pablo Montoya. When is was in CART, he dropped 'Pablo' and was known as Juan Montoya. Since he came to F1, he has gained 'Pablo' back again.

That was to do with the fact American fans don't like long, complicated names, so he shortened it!

from my understanding its "KAT-O", not "KA-TOH"...
Me thinks he just got sick of ppl. calling him the wrong thing, wrong english spelling to start with! we all say Kato anyway, but there is a difference, "you say tomato i say kato" either way he is a legend! |

Well, techically it is KA-TO It was how I was taught Japanese at school, anyway.
A bit like Helio Castro-Neves, now Castroneves. It is to improve the airflow over the car (or bike) by having a more aerodynamic name. |

Yup, it has to be KA-TO. From what I was taught, Japanese language separates out each syllabus of a word. Just like my name, Sarah is spelt out as SA-RA in Japanese
