Not overrated, exactly, but he thinks of himself as being above everyone else in F1.

Welcome to 10 Tenths, DeanT.
Overrated by who? By the media? Probably yes! I don't hope this is yet another thread in which we are going to bash Michael Schumacher. We don't know the guy, remember. All we know about him is what we see on television. And I agree, that's not all very sporting and nice. Therefore a lot of people say he's arrogant and obnoxious. But there are also people who met him and say he's charming, witty and a pleasant person. And Ralf's Girl, you say he thinks of himself as being above everyone else in F1. As amazed as I am that you know what he's thinking, I have never heard him talk about himself like that in any interview. There's nothing wrong with self-confidence, it's the media that turn this into arrogancy. |

MS over rated ??? Maybe by the press, it would be good to see him in a saloon car, sports cars or F3 which might even things out. When he was in the Mercedes sports cars he was good but beatable. The Karting at Bercey a few years ago saw him being meraly human as well, but only just. MS is very rapid and very able to use the tactical pit stop plus good use of the passing of back markers. Also all his recent F1 cars have been in the top 3 makers. So yes he is good, very good perhaps, but in a class with Senna, Clark, Moss, Fangio, et al, no not quite. SL |

I agree with Gerard, please lets not make this thread degenerate into another MS bashing...
Overrated? Given the current driver lineups, certainly not. I have met the guy, and a word I would choose to describe him as? FRIENDLY. |

Welcome Dean T.
Although this debate has gone on several times before in the F1 forum, I still think it would be better there then in the Gravel Trap. [Edited by Jay on 7th August 2000] |

Even after all the controversy that surrounds the man and his tactics, I still think he's possibly the best driver out there at the moment. Yes, he's aggressive. Totally committed to the task in hand. I don't think he's over-rated at all. As Gerard says, it's the media that distorts opinion and 'fact'. Schumacher has to be confident. He has to believe he's the best out there, or he might as well give up altogether. Again, as Gerard says, we only see the side of MS that the media presents to us. I've never met the guy. But I'm sure anyone who has, as with Daibando, will tell you he is a nice guy. From F1 News... Quote:

I think this question will run and run, and TGF has been his own worst enemy on this particular issue, simply because we've not seen him truly run against a teammate who has the same opportunities as him (since 1992 when he was paired with Brundle, and he didn't do badly against him). So, though it's obvious that he is quick, even against his peers it's difficult to say how he relates. I don't know if you could say he's overrated, but it would have been interesting to see him in a team with Hakkinen with equal status.

LIZ, explain, please, how does a bat drive. Maybe this guy drives the car with closed eyes and find his way aurally. If that's the case, he's somebody worth-seeing in F1 flying circus. I think, BAT Racing would give him a contract, especialy as Zonta crashes into the ground inproperly often for a bat.
