British Grand Prix 2011 volunteering
Yes - it's that time of the year again.
The MSA has just issued the volunteering forms and guidelines to the various marshalling clubs. The provisional dates are 8/9/10 July, venue Silverstone. All forms will be available on the BMMC website very shortly - but if you are NOT a BMMC member you must wait for your club to send you the correct form, then return the form to them. The guidelines are: 1. Marshals to have completed a minimum of 12 marshalling days in the calendar year 2009 to qualify for nomination. 2. Forms must be completed and signed by the official. 3. Incomplete forms may not be considered. 4. Only complete one form if you have marshalled for more than one club. Please list all the details on one form 5. All chief/deputy/assistant chief officials must complete a nomination form. 6. Officials who have become Clerks of the Course and Stewards may submit an application to marshal if their experience in the marshalling grade is still current. 7. Nominations from 'novice' officials will not be accepted. 8. Only the official form should be used. Remember the forms MUST be returned to your marshalling club - NOT to the MSA. Your club will do the first filter and then the MSA selection committee will meet in February/March to make the final choice - if, as last year, there are too many volunteers. Good luck and enjoy the event. |

OOPs - cut and paste error - should have said "Marshals to have completed a minimum of 12 marshalling days in the calendar year 2010 to qualify for nomination"

Standard question for this time of year, I'm afraid... I've got the events, but need to record the Licence type (Int, Nat A, Nat B) for them - can you help?
Cheers, David |

As I have more than enough days to qualify from other events (WTCC, BTCC etc), it just gets a cursory mention at the bottom of the list (along with the other events at Crystal Palace and Gurston) to complete the picture of my marshalling this year. Hopefully, that does not cause a problem and I can still be considered for the event. |

Hmmm, I did say I wouldn't volunteer for next year (I did my first GP this year) & leave it until 2012, to keep my interest up but I'm very tempted to apply now!

Just to confirm that hillclimbs and sprints are classified as 'speed' events and not 'race' therefore are a different discipline (and believe it or not Grands Prix are races!!!!! )

As I said in post 10 of this thread, the form does not actually directly say that Speed events do not count. It is simply implied by the comment of 'list days at the grade you are applying for'.
Perhaps some clarification could be put on the form for 2012? As I also said, I have more than enough days elsewhere, but as the form asks for a complete picture, that is what I have given (I will assume that those reading the forms will see enough days at International level circuit events, and leave it at that) |

The grade that you are applying for I would imagine is track or experienced track...now I'm sure the hillclimb bunch will correct me if I'm wrong, but the grades for sprints and hillclimbs (or speed events)were separate, and therefore wouldn't count towards your application for the track or experienced track position.

While we were in Edmonton a Canadian marshal expressed an interest in applying for the GP next year. Assuming he is not a Marshals' Club member, who should he return his form to?
