Shane Hmiel fails another drug test
I don't get this. He had to know NASCAR would do random testing on him for quite some time after he failed the first time, so failing once more is just stupid.

well a shame really.
stupid , yes possibly but maybe its not entirely his fault , maybe he has an addiction of some kind and if thats the case then Nascar should be insisting of some form of help for him. I think he is talented and could have a big future in this sport but he needs help in this situation and hopefully that help will come and he doesnt waste the oppotunity he has. Good luck to him |

What kind of drug tests are they? For example has he failed it due to (for example) cocaine or due to a cold/flu drug which is on the banned list?

As we don't know which drugs were found in his system (performance enhancing or recreational, perscribed or purchased), or whether there are any extenuating personal circusmtances, it's hard to make a full verdict on this. But in genreal, drivers with drug problems shojuld be helped to voercome the problem, but shouldn't be allowed onto the track if tehre is a danger tht it's affecting eprformance (positively or negatively).

Bottom line is that he did act stupidly.Shane did know that he was going to be tested, now he is paying the price for his mistake.Nascar gave him a chance and Shane screwed it up.

Perhaps his departure will now open up a door for another future star-theres plenty of drivers out there who I'm sure could do the job just as well, if not better.

I believe it`s an indefinte ban.
One chance was enough, time to give the seat to a more deserving candidate. Them`s the breaks, IMO. Harsh I know, but this is professional sports with lots of talent on your heels looking for a good ride. |

so he is not aloowed to race Nascar ever again ?
wow that is harsh I hope that has no negative effects on him personally. I would have thought a year or 2 ban would be good for him to get the help he needs and then if he proves himself clean he can try and come back. problem is he is now tarnished and teams would be a bit hesitant to give him a go in case it all goes pear shape again. well whatever happens I hope he works himself out for the better. |

Does anyone know the nature of the test - which drugs were foud in his system? Until we know that there's no way of commenting on whether the decision is fair. There could be several drivers racing under the influence of the same thing who havne't been tested once, let alone twice.

You see, that`s a problem.
There needs to be consistency. Around these parts if the most popular racer would get a fine or a suspension, millions of $$$$ are at stake. And fan dollars. I would like to know more myself. All sites point to Puff, the Magic Dragon, BTW. |

That's the problem then. Alcohol suppliers can't have the NASCAR fans finding out of another substance which is safer and purer.

Shane Hmiel is an idiot. He had his second chance and he blew it. I hope he never races again as an example to others. Professional athletes get away with things like this far too often as it is. The person I feel the worst for is his dad, Steve, who gave his son a lot of help only to have him be stupid TWICE.
