Detachable Roll Bar for an historic single seater

I posted this message in the historic forum but I think I should have posted it here. Mr. Moderator please excuse the duplication!!

I have an historic single seater which currently has no roll bar. I was wondering whether it would be acceptable to have a "bolt on" roll bar, or a roll bar that can be detached in some way. I do take my own safety very seriously indeed and I would propose that the roll bar will be in compliance with the FIA specs. I am aware that the standard is to weld on a bar but there are various reasons I would really like to avoid this, if possible.

Any guidance, particularly from any scrutineers, would be most grateful.

Thanks

There wouldn't be any problem with a bolt in bar from a scroots point of view as it wouldn'd be a mandatory fitting.
You need find something to bolt it to without weaking any of the chassis structure though. You just need to satisfy yourself that whatever you fit will do the job to your satisfaction.

Stephen, It is a 1954 Cooper Mk VIII 500cc. Falcemob, I take you point that I may need to do some cleaver engineering so as not to weaken the chassis. I would be happy to weld on a base plate or whatever would be required.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Spreading the potential load into a chassis that hasn't got built in strong points will present a problem. I guess a double hoop perhaps external to the bodywork would be a possibility, perhaps attached at 4 points.

"just" - sorry can't type, and also didn't know what sort of car it was when I replied. If you don't have a pair of wide spaced main chassis rails at floor level then please ignore it altogether.
