Tag and Walker
I don't know about the rest of you, but I was absolutly blown away by what Tagliani and Walker accomplished over the weekend. The team had no Lola experience and no formal race engineer!
I thought this was an interesting article too: http://www.champcarworldseries.com/N...le.asp?ID=9032 It sounds like Tag is the primary generator of setups. It sounds like the team members who happen to be engineers just keep him on the right track and from getting distracted. I know a lot of people don't think that highly of Tag, but I don't think the likes of Bourdais, Junquira, PT, Wilson, etc. could have been nearly as fast in a car they essentially setup themselves. Also, Tag's time at Rocketsports was really up and down. The outside perception was that the relationship brought the best out of Tag, but should they have listened to him more? With Glock's heft DHL sponsorship, Rocketsports would appear to have more money than ever before, is anyone else surprised that they're not accomplishing more? |

Taglani is doing a great job - he'll win races this year.
I only wish they had a decent driver in the second car. |

Obviously Tag's a very clever driver, who must've mentally taken notes about setup over the eyars and been able to help the team apply them. The start he's made to the season is highly promising, and must delight Derrick and Craig.
Ultimately, no one forced the team to have an Australian in the second car - that was Craig Gore's decision, and there must've been more-talented (but perhaps less-funded) drivers who would have been interested. Those two aspects have restricted teh qualit yof the second car's eprformance much more than the V8s being hugely popular. |

So what's with this grandlynamed "Team Australia" not having a Team Engineer? Why bother showing up each weekend if you dont actually have a technical program in place? Or are the drivers meant to use "the force"?? |

I saw him race last year, and made the conclusion then. |

I know you Ausis are more familiar with Marshall than I am, but I think he needs to be cut some slack. Don't forget, he has no engineer either! Tag may be able to give Marshall a setup that is fast in the right hands, but Marshall is going to have a tough time figuring out how to make the setup work for him or perhaps how to drive Tag's setup.
The team may be "Team Ausi", but it's still Derek Walker and his people making the team accomplish things. |

All Craig Gore and Marcus Marshall are really bringing to the team is money, and OWRS may have provided that for at least 1 car (2 now that Jenson have scaled back anyway) - probably with Haberfeld in the second car, adn he's far better than Marcus on paper. I'll continue to call it Walker.

Just as I'll continue to call "Rogers Centre" the "SkyDome". |

Roger's center? Come on, you can't rename a national landmark like that. What would have been wrong with say.... Roger's SkyDome... lousy corporations.... that was off topic.
Back on, Tag and Walker have both been underdogs for so long that this arrangement couldn't be more fitting. |
