Le mans 1000km

Has anybody heard about the entry list for the Le Mans 'shake down' race? I hear the the first 2 or 3 cars out of each class go through automatically for the 24hr race?

It is also on the ACO's site....

Much smaller than I thought it would be....Durango, Promec, and others also missing....

But Panoz has a GTP Entry!!!!!

I am surprised by the lack of ALMS teams though, with the exception of Intersport sending the R&S and the MG-Lola...

Automatic bids for the podium winners of each class should have drawn more entries than this...

Interesting that 8 others either didn't meet ACO specs or were late...and thus rejected....

what do you think of the list: a panoz car in GTP , the back of lamborghini, laffite as a driver of the morgan aero 8.

Another note:

Apparently there will be only nine automatic bids to the 2004 Le Mans 24 Hours....

The LMP 675 class will get only two and the GTS only one...not enough cars competing in those classes to warrant a full 3 bids....

Questions:

Can the teams who earn the LMP 675 bids use them for LMP1 or LMP2 next year???

Or can they use them for either, since the LMP 675 class goes away next year???

That one has not been answered...

it could be a new gtp that panoz has been building, or it could be the old panoz GT1 (converted to gtp?)

Apparently they have built one and kept a great secret from everyone...unless that posting is in error, but I doubt that it is...

Maybe that's why they're selling the LMP900s and planning to do the GTs as privateers...they have a closed cockpit car...

Its nice that panoz is running with GTR 1. I hope that the car is competeble with the bentley. If they want to use this car for the 24 hours. I m a litte bit afraid.

no, they wont be using it next year, and bentley wont be there next year.

this is just a "for the fans" thing. might be the final car to be a factory panoz. the GTR1 was the first factory panoz, and may be the last.. (under factory backing)

I wonder, what are the chances of the Panoz GTP being outpaced by the Care Racing Ferrari 550s? Or even the new Lambourgini, or Konrad Saleen (at least in qualifying if Lechnr is driving).

Chances are slim I know, but heh, it could happen.

it doesnt look like Speed will cover the race. im really upset over this. the entry list is really good (except gts, was really wishing there would be a few more cars)- like the belmando vipers, and Nash's saleen, JMB 575, and the pagini

Am I missing something? 42 entries (there are five GTS cars rd!) is that not a good grid? Its more than a poor start. Don't forget its after the FIA SCC season has finished and there are probably teams without money left. There are some cracking 900 and 675 cars. What's the problem? I'm all set for a great event.
