Aco

little article in this weeks autosport where aco sports director daniel poissenot says the aco would like more events run along aco rules in europe...perhaps another four in addition to the 24 hours.

"it is indispensible that there is a championship like the european le mans series. if competitors from europe do not have the means to go and race in the alms, they cannot live on one race a year(le mans).

And how long did it take the ACO to realise that...

Sounds like a good idea to me, not particularly original for most people but it is new thinking from the ACO who always have had the attitude that they dont need to rely on any other events.

I do hope it happens, I can not see it happening in 2003, but in 2004 I think you may find one series which replaces the FIA GT's and FIA SCC and runs to Le Mans rules.

Replaces the FIASCC, yes. Replaces the FIA GT - ??
This is a successful series, the FIA won't give it up so easily.

They may look at the success of the ALMS and some merge the series into a new ELMS series

It's common sense really that there needs to be a series in Europe conforming to Le Mans regs.

I'm in two minds about combining the two FIA series. On the one hand, the FIASCC could do with the help, but the FIAGTC is doing very well at the moment, and the interest in GT style racing is pretty high at the moment worldwide.

He thinks it's should be done... but Michel Cosson (Chairman) says that's not ACO job...

No, ACO won't take the risk and run the series on their own. They only want to be responsible for their little party (but what a party it is!).

The problem with Ratel's new Sportscar Championship is that (a) no factories are involved (allowed?) and (b) ACO would like production and prototypes on the track together. I, for one, concur.

That said, there has to be sufficient reward for the privateers in any series that allows factory participation. Has the ALMS found that balance? I don't have any inside info, but the level of participation suggests it's not inadequate...

What incentive is there for a works team to compete in the FIASCC?

How about this for an idea - The ALMS stays as it is and they form a new series here in Europe (ELMS), with rounds at Monza, Spa, Brands etc and the two series come together for 3 or 4 big showpeace events at Le Mans, Sebring, PLM and 1 other worth double points..............
