Monte Carlo Rally

Hey guys, the start of the 2003 World Rally Championship is not that far away with the Monte Carlo Rally five weeks from now.

Good thing too, the withdrawl's really starting to kick in... It's only Colin McRae 2.0 that's keeping me sane.

When is the Paris Dakar (as I will keep on calling it no matter if they do decide to call it the Product Name Here Rally) actually?

SJ Spode should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The 25th Dakar event starts in the Bouches du Rhône region of France on January 1st.

After a night prologue in Marseille and a special in Spain, the competitors will board for Africa. Three countries will be crossed: Tunisia, Libya and Egypt to finish at the Sinai Point on 19th January. In total there are 8.552 km (3.306 km of liaison and 5.216 km of special).

More details at www.dakar.com

I'll be keeping an eye out for the progress of the VW works team who are entering rally buggy versions of the new Touraeg 4WD.

Monte should be a cracker - Tommi, Loeb, McRae and Panizzi are all possible winners. I reckon Loeb will do it this time. I believe Tommi's over the hill now (the king is dead!) so Loeb will be the favourite.

I follow the bikes at the Dakar -- and I'm going to be watching for Loeb to win the Monte this year and keep it this time.

I am somewhat sure Loeb will win in Monte Carlo and take the first win for Citroën in Monte Carlo since when? Was that the last time, when Pauli Toivonen win with the huge DS, after all the Minis got disqualified?
