Well they cant even spell 'field' so good luck to them...
If they had $17m to throw around of their own dosh (given that the NT one is from the government up there), they would buy a race circuit in Queensland and base the AVESCO and TEGA gin palaces out there.... |

Or the old Surfers Paradise track at Carrara, although it's too late for this now as some building work has started on this site. |

Manfield is long overdue for a major overhaul of the pit and spectator area,in the 10-12 years I have visited the place nothing has changed.
One very good thing about Manfield is that from the spectator areas you can view pretty much 100% of the track. Last edited by Warwick; 13 Nov 2003 at 09:20. |

Second - maybe someone should do some digging and find out just how the NT government actually spent $17 million and what it was spent on. Funny how a new road was built that ends at the track entrance...... |

I know Manfeild is spelled this way, however it is not conventional...
$17m is a drop in the ocean compared to the $100m the NSW government piddled up the wall at Eastern Creek! |

But the bikes were never going to run at Amaroo,
infact what ever it cost at least NSW has 2 tracks,in alll honesty given the time frame they did pretty well to get a track let alona a decent one built at all. |

I will ask again though - dig and see exactly where the $17m was spent...

Maybe it was some sacred site and the owners had to be compensated.
How much of the original track was there to begin with?I seems to have already been some sort of motorsport complex with at least Go Karts and Drags happening anyway.Mind you that pit complex would not have been cheap to build given all the concrete etc that was used to make it cyclone proof, but I also struggle to see 17 million unless you include Tiger whatever drive in the equation and the exit ramps etc. |

OK - I'll give you a hint (again)...
Look at the road leading to the track - look at where it stops - and then dig govt records to see how much this road cost. Shock, horror - not much of that $17m left for the track itself.... |

I know RT, we are a bit thick... I went looking thru the google search, and it seems the NT government spent only $3.3m on the circuit itself... where did the rest go? Into the road that goes to the front gate?

Correct - which is why I was saying - look into it - seeing as AVESCO are touting the $17m as a way to get a circuit up to scratch..
Consider also that on the Wednesday immediately prior to the first V8 meeting (ie 2 days before practice started) they decided they had better lay the bitumen immediately behind the pits! |

Or do what ever you can and let TC pull the pin on the event and p155 of all the kiwi fans,do AVESCO need the O/S event more than NZ,that is the question.

If you need a real world cost to build a 3.2km track - QR cost $9.35M
And that was without land cost, ie Leasehold. Replacement cost at today's prices is somewhere near $15M. You need very deep pockets to get into the circuit business. |

PS - TC would not have a clue about the costs to "upgrade" a motor racing circuit" to AVESCO standards. Not a single clue.

The pits are very dated with only about 10 proper garages a whole bunch of old stables and a large grassed area, but with the right money there is plenty of available space to develop a very good pit complex. |
