There's a great selection of cars competing in the Unlimited class at Pikes Peak this year, Andreas Eriksson and Marcus Grönholm in two specially prepared (rallycross derived) Mk.7 Fiesta's:

Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima (the current hillclimb record holder) returns using his Suzuki Swift Sport SX4 Hillclimb Special:

And Mark Rennison is going to have a go in the 1150 BHP Mach 2 RS200:

Will the 10 minute barrier be broken this year?...

...just a pity that theres absolutely no TV coverage (either here on in the US) of this event. How can one of, if not the, greatest rally events on the planet go uncovered?

Great cars the RS200 has changed a bit since the last time it was used, the rear wing is totally different. It also has more power Monster is probably the favourite I'd have said - he's the only one of the drivers mentioned above to have tackled the course prior to this year. I see Gronholm has elected to take a co-driver with him as he thinks the benefits will outweigh the disadvantage of carrying the extra weight.

Yeah, I have to agree with Tajima being the favourite. Having said that I'd love to see the RS200 put a win under its belt.

Thats interesting to read about Gronholm. I guess Eriksson is more used to "flying solo" so may not miss the presence of a co-driver so much. Out of interest can I ask where you're getting your information from please? There seem to be very few websites with regular updates on the event; Even the PPIHC site itself is a bit on the slow side!

Both, Grönholm and Eriksson are going to take co-drivers up to the summit.

The Suzuki SX4 of "Monster" is brand new. For his record in 2007 as well as in 2008 he used the same Suzuki XL7.

Eriksson runs Fiesta No. 5 that has 3 doors, Grönholm driving Fiesta No. 3, which has 5 doors. Not at all confusing right?

Nice vid. Gronholm looked beautifully smooth, no wonder he was merely just a few seconds slower!

To me he looks pretty much faster than "Monster" in the second corner…

Yeha I agree, he just held good speed all the way through the corner, whereas Monster was slow past the apex and then on the power.

They'll have an onboard camera on won't they?

Just found out that both, Andréas’ and Mark’s car are ready for today’s race.

However, Pikes Peak or Denver/Colorado time is 7 hours behind UK and 8 hours behind CEST.

Gotta say the Fords look pretty good. How on earth they get the money together to do this I dont know!! I think they must be getting cash from Ford in teh USA.

Great to watch though and Gronholm looks a class act
I thin Eriksson is a bit hotheaded for Pikes Peak!! Would not wanna be his co drver!!

does anyone have the specs for the Fiestas ? Are they YB powered ? I think the Idea is that Ford want to sell the Fiesta in the USA so some marketing is required......
