What benefit would this be to the class? One may argue that it's a Nascar style now, given that what used to be a production based touring car category now barely resembles that format. After all, what parts in the cars are on production vehicles, other than body parts?
What engines would they use? |

Didn't you guys pay attention to TEGA's proposed new rules that included: One bodyshape for both manufacturers.

I was making somewhat of a comparison. The transams that run in that are just shells are they not.

It's probably true but unfortunately I don't think it is something I would be interested in supporting......bring back "group A" I reckon!

I don't know if there are too many body parts in common with the road cars. Probably the roof (no, that's got a duct in it) or maybe the rear windscreen and the tail lights. Seem to remember seeing a story once that said almost nothing was interchangeable between V8 Supercar and road car. And almost nothing means just that - from any part of the car. So a fibreglass shell on an off-the-shelf spaceframe chassis and with a Ford or GM enigne up front is not all that far eremoved from what we already have, if that's the case. Is it? |

AVESCO should have a big rethink about this, if it is the way they are intending to go......it is just simply too far removed from what the public want and are prepared to accept I imagine. I would prefer to watch GTP for 1000k's at Bathurst.

A fiberglass shell on a space frame would allow other manufactures to enter (with a suitable donk) although I’m not sure if it would make regulating aero parity better or worse.

The appeal of the V8's is supposed to be that they are 'similar' to those bought in the showroom, at least they nearly look the same. One body shape with stick on headlights will destroy what appeal they have left.

why would a manufacturer support something they dont manufacture. At least the things we have today look the goods.
I myself would stop supporting if this happened and whos ideas is all this....do they ever ask the punters who actually pay their salaries |

Doesn't particularly worry me. Speedway Super Sedans have been doing this for years. Spaceframe chassis, off-the-shelf fibreglass body, Chev 360-cube engine (I think its 360. Could be 372). It's racing, who cares? Good racing is good racing. Doesn't matter if its Porsches, V8 Supercars or Sprintcars. What's the problem?

Define "identify". You have a car that looks like a Ford (or Holden), has a Ford (or Holden) engine up front, a six-speed manual gearbox, controlled diff ratio, controlled suspension, controlled wheels and tyres and controlled weight and, finally, has Ford (or Holden) stickers on its sides and windscreen.
Geez, sounds like a formula we already have. It's called V8 Supercars. I think what you are actually trying to say, Morri, is that a lot of people watch the Supercars for the spectacle, not for the sport. |

When Holden & Ford are kicking in more than 50% of the budget, the number crunchers would strip the class of the money pronto. Good racing is not what the money is invested for - see you at Avalon soon. |

Back in 1993, we were all sold the idea that the public wanted to see cars that we all drive, not the Godzillas, Turbo Sierras and the dreaded Europeans (including my beloved M3) so V8 Supercars was born. Now Avesco and a few others here seem to want change for change's sake. If we go with this even more Nascar like formula it will be a further step in mindlessly losing the Australian identity of another facet of life here.
Motorsport now has "straightaways" where they used to be "straights", an oval with 2 straights and a 180 degree turn at each end to join them somehow has 4 turns in it and lets not forget my personal favourite of "gentlemen, start your engines", derrrrr. Why do we slavishly follow the yanks in all manner of things? To the detrement of Australian motorsport, the space frame chassis will happen, it's just a matter of when in my humble opinion. |

Because everyone eventually wants something new, something different.
If they trot out the same show year after year with nothing new people will get tied of it. |
