Roll Cage Materials
Hello,
Well i am trying to conduct an FEA on roll cages. I found that the usual materials used for Roll cages (According to FIA regulations+not) were: 1) CDS Carbon Steel 2) ERW Mild Steel 3) DOM Mild Steel 4) Cr (Chrome Molybdenum) Steel Now i was searching for more info on the specific properties and specs on these but i could only find AISI 1018 steel which i think is CDS? Anyone knows the specific material+properties used or more information for these 4 that is used in Roll Cage making? I tried looking on MatWeb, but the results are all general and got me confused a little. Please help me out thanks |

Here is the thing, we discussed this pretty recently and quite a few options were listed with there "correct" numbers and what the common names were...
but I am looking and it is not there, indeed there seems to be quite a few missing from a month ago or so. So I can't refer you like I would want to, because that has a lot more good stuff CroMo is 4130 There is also 4130N and 4130AQ, which are the same with fractional changes in alloy and hence properties FIA spec CDW (Cold drawn welded), I think is 1020. I think that is the DOM steel you refer to. |

Yes it is important to my reply.
I suggest you get in touch with Hub le Bas who have UK offices but not US. They produce a wide range of steel tubing and have full specs on all the materials they produce and stock. Last edited by phoenix; 21 Dec 2007 at 10:12. |
