Who will win the WSBK 2004 title?
I know WSBK isn't getting that much coverage this year, but I was just wondering who you think will win the WSBK title this year. These are the current standings with 5 rounds to go:
1. Regis Laconi - Fila Ducati - 171 points (5 wins) 2. James Toseland - Fila Ducati - 168 points (1 win) 3. Noriyuki Haga - Renegade Ducati - 139 points (3 wins) 4. Chris Vermeulen - Ten Kate Honda - 137 points (1 win) 5. Pierfrancesco Chili - Ducati PSG 1 - 129 points (1 win) 6. Garry McCoy - Xerox Ducati - 128 points (1 win) So 6 riders in with a chance at the title. Who will win? |

I really hope the Fila boys are beaten, because I don't think either of them has showed the pace, consistancy or composure to be worthy champions, and the guys on year (or two)-old bikes have rivalled them too often (not just the top 3, but also Haslam and Martin).
I'd love to see Nitro Nori or Chili pick up a title, but Vermuelen and Ten Kate could be the bright future of the series, so I wish them well. |

At the moment id go for Laconi, Toseland has a good chance of beating him but at the moment he isnt showing the consistantcy needed to beat a class act such as Laconi. Its a shame I thought Toseland might do it this year...

My head says Laconi but my heart says Haga! Haga is definitely the better rider and would be further up without his bad luck. Hope Haga prevails in the end, would be a good break to the works Dukes dominance!

Laconi should win the title. He's been inconsistent, but he's doing enough I suppose. Haga would be sentimental favourite with a lot of people.
I'd like to see the Ten Kate lads nick it though. That would be sweeeeet! |

Well, I didn't see him trying to take the title away from Edwards and Honda when they won it in 2002 did I? Or was that because they both left WSBK at the end of that season? What exactly did Vermeulen get disqualified for at Monza? I can't remember:confused: Last edited by Yoong Montoya; 1 Jul 2004 at 20:50. |

Laconi will probably win the title. He'd be a lot further ahead in the championship but for (for example) his failure to finish either Valencia race.

That's odd. I've seen a lot of riders fall off and the bike never cut and they were able to continue (Hodgson @ PI 2001, Edwards at Misano 2001, Bayliss twice @ Silverstone 2002 etc.) |
