Adelaide R1 - pretty boring - has Adelaide lost its magic??
I always enjoy the big V8 events - Bathurst, Canberra, and Adelaide.
But todays race was boring, and I almost fell asleep. The Adeliade event seems to have lost the magical quality it surely had in the last 3 years. Channel 10 have stuffed up. Matthew White is the wrong commentator - bring back Baz! And at one stage I thought, I'm on the wrong channel - they're talking AFL! Ten - this is a motorsport coverage. To make matters worse, all these Ten 'stars' appeared in the pits! I want to watch driver interviews, not wannabe actors! The event itself is trying to copy Melbourne. The celebrity qualifying was a joke. Who were half those women? A bunch on nobodies! |

i agree totally, not only was it boring, but it went too fast, well.....only the race, the rest took bloody ages. And who really wants to watch Ford Lasers drive around a race track at 1/10th with no entertainment value!? well, if you want to show racing, put on the proper stuff.
I do beleive at the end of the race though, it did start to get more interesting, but up until the half way point nothing really happened. And what the hell was the AFL about, its just like watching a snooker telecast, and them saying, "now lets go to something more interesting!" I think the reason that the V8s were boring is that nobody seemed very in shape for the race, and the viewers were still getting used to the new cars, teams, liveries and drivers. I think if they were to bring Phillip Island back to the first race, then we could view the new cars and everything, and then get a good idea of what you are going to see for large races, such as Adelaide. But the first round of the season is never a interesting one, or an easy to remember affair. Who won the second race (1st round) of 2000? (Rhetorical question). We will just have to see what the second leg has in store, it always seems to be more interesting. And i enjoy it more. (PS: I don't want him to beat Skaife or HRT, but bad luck to to Radisich, and good luck for tomorrow) Thanks for reading it all! |

I was pretty happy with the race. I thought it was pretty exciting, with a fair amount of passing and racing. Then, I might be easily pleased.
Shame HRT were so dominant, and the officials stuffed up with the Tander & Kelly thing. |

Fastest corner in the country! what is it 4th or 5th 200kph or is is flat in 6 220 kph! how come I was seeing brake lights?
I have done the kink at Bathurst at 220 kph without lifting the foot in a Falcon with 3 people in it! |

i didnt think it was that bad , the race was Ok and the coverage was half decent , not many replays though.
yes the celebrity race thingy wasnt that exciting , but if you have it on tape watch it again , Jill Johnson was really giving it a red hot go , she seriously was , and I was impressed with her driving , but yes I would rather see other support races. hope today is better |

Thank god someone else started this topic. I was calling in here to make the same observation.
I fell asleep - literally. The Laser thing was just qualifying, so it was'nt really racing. Yawn. And the AFL bit - I almost turned the TV off. I hate AFL, and the last place I want to hear about it is during my motor racing. And the 'celeb' interviews. That guy from 'Secret life of us', tell me he was'nt completely wacked at the time. Unreal. Oh yeah, there was some V8 racing too, was'nt there? Yawn. End of Rant |

My review of the telecast....
The new commentary team is actually better than I thought, I think baz does a better job in the pits, no more 'oohs' every time someone locks a brake. The lack of support events was a bit of a shame, the celebrity RACE is always a bit of fun, but NOT the QUALIFYING... That AFL stuff, god, what the hell was going on there. I wonder if in the middle of the AFL Grand Final if they'll interview Barry Sheene and ask him what's gonna happen at Bathurst. I think not. That was just outrageous. Ridiculos. Yeah, Wrex, that fella from the Secret Life of Us seemed like a bit of a weirdo, don't know what he added to the telecast.... The telecast, overall, wasn't BAD, but a bit more racing, less AFL, and it could be better. Must admit, yesterday's race was hardly the best, so 10 didn't have anything spectacular to work with... |

Yesterday's race was a real yawn, but today's was ok in the last half.
I was so p1ssed yesterday, rushed back from work to see the start of it, then get fed AFL and that wannabe actor. I nearly fell asleep before the race started with the AFL and the celebrity qualifying, but the reason we got no support races is because all the other races were PROCAR events, and they're on SBS this year. On the commenatary, i didn't miss the ohhing and ahhing, but Sheene and Oastler were the only one's who had a slight clue. White, Woods, Rust and Beattie weren't all that good. I was glad when Crompton stepped into the box before the end of race 2, brought some sanity too it all. |

I'm glad we all thought the same though I would like to point out just how good the amount of incar camera shots were.I just wish there was even more. Barry was hilarious when he covered the HRT stop and it is obvious he is right royally ****ed off with being sent down to the pits.On a positive note for the us though, we won't here Barry's classic comment on how competitive the formula is 10 times a day anymore!

Perhaps our disapointment had something to do with it being a great track. The telecast comeentary did not match the camera work. The do do some things very right. But I loathe Tony Cochrane, I don't want him in my Longue Room.
Lets hope that someone rises from the ashes to take on HRT. Otherwise it will be another long and boring season. |

The last part of race 2 weren't too bad.
The in-car camera stuff was actually alright over the weekend, something which channel 10 hasn't been all that good at in the past, and it was good to see them talking to the drivers again during the race, albeit during safety cars. |
