Yeah, it's not needed with FWD-only spec. powertrains.
I guess these cars will be on roughly the same level as Clio Cup cars? It'll be good to have a multi-marque lower-level series in saloon car racing. TCS in Italy hasn't taken off. |

Great stuff, usually these series with hot headed youngsters provide great racing.

Hmm... so this is not organized by Lotti's crew, but rather by "TCO - international Touring Car Organisation" from Bremen, Germany. Anybody ever heard about them? Any known names behind that organization?

Sounds interesting.
Could be a solution for TCR Benelux to bring grids to +20 cars. The Benelux series really needs a cheaper 2nd class. |

Not sure that fills me with great confidence. The technical ruleset sounds interesting and I think that there is a need for a secondary category to TCR, especially for regions like Benelux and the Iberian Peninsula, but motorsport is all about momentum - people will only invest in a series if it has a certain "hipness" to it.
Having just failed to put together a sufficient grid for the last series he was involved in, Mayer definitely does not have that. Things would look much better if the ADAC and Engstler officially endorsed TC-Light as their junior category or even had a hand in promoting it. What makes things worse is that there really isn't another place to run these cars in case the series is a failure, so teams might be stranded with 50k€ (just a guess) race cars and no place to race them. |

I'd prefer if the OEM road spec engines were kept and just beefed up / tuned.

That's what DTC tried to do with the S1600 category for the better part of a decade, and with not very much success. The spec power train is the only true USP for TC-Lights, so they really can't do without that.

The Uruguayan Superturismo engines are 2.0L naturally aspirated, with a maximum output of 220 hp and a 8000 rpm rev limiter. They have 6-speed sequential gearboxes. They weight 1020 kg, but may get up to 80 kg of success ballast.
There's a new secondary class to debut this weekend, with engines detuned to 190 hp. |
