RaceTime should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Bathurst 24 Hour Changes Dates

BATHURST 24-HOUR RACE DATE NOW ONE WEEK EARLIER

AUSTRALIA'S first international 24-hour motor race will be run at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, a week earlier in November than originally planned, organiser PROCAR Australia announced today.

The event now will be held on 16-17 November, with a field of up to 83 sports and touring cars.

PROCAR Australia Chairman and Chief Executive Ross Palmer said the date change was necessary because of television requirements.

Mr Palmer, currently in Germany to promote the Bathurst event and to compete in next weekend's ADAC Nurburgring 24-hour race, said arrangements were progressing well, in conjunction with the Bathurst City Council and other partners.

"We are preparing to make several important announcements in the near future. However, when we became aware in the past few days that the event date would have to change to suit our expected television arrangements, we felt this needed to be announced as soon as possible - especially since we are contacting potential European entrants while at the Nurburgring," he said.

"There is tremendous international and local interest in the Bathurst 24-Hour. It will be one of just five major 24-hour events in the world and it will be staged on a circuit that is already world-famous.

"It promises to be an important addition to Australia's reputation for staging world-class motorsport events."

Is this another way to say, we will have no officials if we keep it to the original weekend?

whatever, at least the race is still going ahead, hopefully there won't be an officials shortage that weekend, although with apparently the powertour race being cancelled, could they have left it where it was, as i don't think television commitments was the real reason.

Anyway, November 16/17, 23/24, i'm still gonna be there

Any words on the entry list yet, and what about the Sandown 500, i think it's entry could suffer due to the 24 hour.

I was on a pit crew for the James Hardie 12 hour and I am still trying to get over it. The driver was, to put it nicely an absoult wit

I should still be going, however November is still a little while away. Will there be a 10/10's section of the crowd ?

There is a day/night meeting at Oran Park on that weekend. It looks like the NSWRRC might have to change. I wonder what Doreen B. will have to say about that?

Colinbond, I crewed at 2 12 hour races at the mount and the awfull one at eastern creek and had a great time, it helps when you are in the right team, we had all the proper catering and a couple of beds out the back to have a rest on. The only problem i had was bedding in brakes at 3am on the road to orange. Stop half way and do a pad and disc change and drive back to bathurst.

If it really happens you would just have to be there? Like the Adelaide Millenium race it will be too good to miss. But does anyone know if it will really happen?

I hope it does, i've always thought they announced it a bit too late, but anyway, would they have bothered changing dates if it possibly wasn't going to happen, considering that the PowerTour round has been cancelled?

I'll definatly be there

but if it's cancelled, i'll just drive round the track myself for 24 hours

Well i still won't be going 'cos it is just to late in the year. If his changing dates then TV has asked for it so my bet is SBS.

Much as I'd like to see it work super well, I dont think we'll see anywhere near the expected 83 cars..and with an SBS tv deal only, I just dont see it taking up. Basically I sadly think it'll go down the same road at the TOCA Bathurst. That is a great shame, because I really like the PROCAR series, but my mind tells me that it wont work.

Bomm, they actually allow 2 meetings a year where the whole circuit has to be closed.

Yes you are correct. sorry. i just re read the act. 2 meetings a year but doesn't stipulate whole track and doesn't regulate maximum number of cars. so hillclimbs and sprints are included in this number.
