The tramp at Lydden Hill

Does anybody remember the old tramp who lived in the trees on the outside of paddock bend? My memories are very faint as i was very young. When did he disapear, and what was he doing there anyway!!

Sounds intrigueing, but I'll wager it was a Marshall, gone "native".

(edit...psssst Marshal is spelt with one L)

I can remember one friday afternoon before a weekend meeting a few years
ago there was a eco warrior,as dear old gary was told ( R.I.P.),set up camp
actually in the tops of the trees,he had his little tent.He was a competitor,
that was quite funny @ the time.
BB....

I first went to Lydden in 1989, and he was certainly still there then, but I can't remember how much longer he was around- into the early 90's at a guess?

I may have been reffering to a "stack" that "goes to 11"... (I wasnt)

but thanks for pointing out something I never realised before!

I think he left about the time that Bill Chesson sold the circuit, about 85/86??

Didn't he have lots of cats in his "home"?

I think his name was Kalone! and he was from Poland. He used to pick up all the rubbish after events and every so often would get himself arrested in Dover or Canterbury so he could have a shave and a new set of clothes. I think Tom Bissett arranged for him to be moved on.

Reminds me of a tramp who lived in Stevenage when I was a kid. He used to go into the Police Station in December and hit a copper so he could be in prison over christmas, although they got wise to it after a while.

There was a story that they took him to Peterborough to get rid of him and he got back before they did!
