Great question. Given this and the original WEC/Peit Le Mans clash maybe the ACO (and FIA WEC) just don't worry too much about such things, even if they're releasing their schedule later and the conflicts should be readily apparent.

On the other side, how many teams and drivers that race at the 24H Nürburgring will also participate in the ELMS or Le Mans Cup. Not as many as there would be in the Blancpain GT Series.

DSC talks to Gerard Neveu about the ELMS calendar and the Le Mans Cup.

“We never really considered extending or shortening the calendar,” [Neveu] revealed. “We sent a questionnaire out to the ELMS teams. Their feedback advocated stability and consideration for keeping costs under control. On the latter topic, we could make an announcement in Portimao about capping the number of people supporting teams during ELMS race week-ends. Throughout this questionnaire, we are also given a few hints about where teams might want to compete in the future.

“But again, we understood that our customers wanted things to be balanced and stable. We shall respect that.”

ELMS has hit a sweet spot, has loads of good entries (although could do with more GT cars). If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yeah, ELMS seems to do well now. Even if I don't find the series very interesting.

I was just thinking about the adjustment made to the Buriram round for the AsLMS season that is about to begin. I was wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea to do likewise with one ELMS race, the most obvious choice for this being Monza.

Standard LMS race length is four hours. Buriram has been extended to six.

I think doing one "highlight" race for the season isn't a bad idea. No, I don't recommend doing the "WEC treatment" on the whole schedule. And all the better that it isn't a WEC venue that gets it.

I think it's better to have a standalone longer distance event to add a bit of variety

Agreed, a 1000km at the Ring for example in the summer prior to the start of the WEC season would be great.

Duqueine Engineering through Duqueine Mobility is buying french sportscar maker Norma, so they will not enter ELMS as a team anymore

when i read the story on DSC (http://www.dailysportscar.com/2017/1...utomotive.html) I first thought that Norma was dropping out not the Duqueine team.

It also says there are going to pursue an LMP2 car. Thought that was capped already?

I think it just means that Duqueine are trying to move from LMP3 to LMP2 (with one of the 4 chassis available), so as to not race against the LMP3 Norma runners, as they'd be a "factory" Norma team.

That makes more sense, man my reading comprehension is low today.

DSC reporting that two wheel guns can be used at the same time and refueling and tire changes can occur at the same time in LMS pit stops.

This probably mirrors what the ACO also want to do with the WEC, since the ELMS and WEC are both effectively run by the ACO.

Dragonspeed have confirmed they will return to the ELMS alongside their LMP1 program in the WEC.

Scrub that idea. SMP ran the High Class spare car, and it's likely that went back to High Class.
