More V8 Supercar Chassis Histories
Further to my history of the Perkins Enginnering chassis, enclosed is the history of some chassis.
Dick Johnson Racing: DJREB1 07/92. Built by Neal Lowe and unveiled at final ATCC round at Oran Park in 92. Ran at the Bathurst Media day the following week, but DJR’s decision to build the car before the homologation specs were finalised proved costly, as it was deemed not to comply in the suspension area, and uneconomical to change. Was destined to become a very expensive show car. DJREB2 11/92. Raced by Dick Johnson at the Adelaide GP and in the NZ Enduros. Raced by John Bowe from beginning of 93 until mid way through 94. Raced by Cameron McConville in enduros, at Sandown with Johnson & Bowe, and at Bathurst with Paul Radisich. Raced at 94 Oran Park round by Steve Johnson, Allan Grice at the Sandown 500, as the T car at Bathurst, and at the Adelaide GP by Bowe. Sold to John Trimble who raced it in the ATCC in 95, and in the ATCC and at Bathurst in 96. Sold in 97 to Mike Conway who raced it until it was destroyed at the Phillip Island ATCC round in 00. DJREB3 01/93. Debuted by Johnson at Amaroo Park ATCC round and raced in all rounds. Written off after accident at Bathurst. Stored at DJR workshop until rebuilt as a display car to replicate the 94 Bathurst winner. DJREB4 01/94. Debuted by Johnson at Amaroo Park ATCC round and raced by Johnson up until Sandown 500. Raced by Grice at Bathurst, and again by Johnson from the Adelaide GP until the Waneroo round in 95, being upgraded to EF specs at the end of 94. Raced in at the Oran Park round and in the enduros in 95 by Steve Johnson. Following DJREB5 being destroyed, raced by Bowe it in the last 5 96 ATCC rounds. Following DJREB7 being badly damaged at Indy in 97, Bowe again drove it from round 2 until the end of the ATCC. Steve Johnson raced it in some 98 ATCC rounds as the Racing for Life car. DJREB5 06/94. Debuted by Bowe at Eastern Creek round and raced until being destroyed at the Phillip Island round in 96. Upgraded to EF at end of 94. DJREF6 08/95. Debuted by Johnson at Oran Park ATCC round and raced until Melbourne Grand Prix in 98. Raced by Steve Johnson in enduros in 96 and 97 and again at Indy in 99. Sold to Neil Schembri in 2000 who raced it in some Konica rounds and at Bathurst. DJREF7 09/96. Debuted at Bathurst by Bowe. Badly damaged at Indy in 97, but rebuilt for Sandown 500. Used by Bowe until end of 98. Raced at Indy in 99 by Radisich and then sold to Ross Halliday who raced it in the Konica series in 00 and 01 and at Bathurst in 00. Sold to Terry Wyhoon to race in 02 Konica series. Raced by G Crawford in some 03 Konica races. DJREL8 04/98. Debuted by Johnson at Lakeside ATCC round and raced until end of 98. Sold to Paragon Motorsport and raced by Cameron McLean throughout 99. DJRAU9 03/99. Raced by Radisich throughout 99 and up until Queensland 500 in 2000. Raced at Bathurst by Steve Johnson and for the 1st few ATCC rounds in 01. Raced by Greg Ritter in the 01 enduros. Sold to Greg Crick in 02 and raced in the Konica series and at Bathurst. DJRAU10 03/99. Raced by Johnson throughout 99, with Steve Johnson racing the car at the Calder round and at Indy and in 00 up until the Queensland 500. Sold to Craig Harris debuting at Bathurst. Harris raced the car in the 01 Konica series with Dale Brede driving in the 02 series. DJRAU11 09/00. Debuted by Radisich at Bathurst in 00 and until the Philip Island round in 01, before Steve Johnson took it over until the Oran Park round. Raced by Ritter in some ATCC rounds and in the enduros in 02. Raced by Radisich at the Sandown ATCC round in 02. DJRAU12 03/01. Debuted by Radisich at Adelaide round and raced until end of 02. DJRAU13 08/01. Debuted by Steve Johnson at Queensland 500 and raced until end of 02. In 03 DJR entered 1 of DJRAU11 – 13 in the Konica series for Tony Riccadello with Warren Luff driving in the Mallala and Bathurst rounds. In 04, 2 were entered in the Konica series for Jose Fernandez and Owen Kelly, with David Brabham driving the Kelly car in the Bathurst Konica race. I am not sure which chassis were used. DJRBA14 & DJRBA15 were both debuted at the Melbourne by Johnson and Max Wilson, although I am not sure who was driving which chassis. Both were used up until the Oran Park round in 04, with Warren Luff taking over the Wilson car. Brabham raced one in the 04 enduros. Both were used for the final sprint rounds in 04. Dean Canto is using Johnson’s car in the 05 Konica series, the other by Grant Denyer. DJRBA16 09/04. Raced by Steve Johnson in the 04 enduros and then the 05 series. DJRBA17 03/05. Raced by Glenn Seton in the 05 series. |

Holden Racing Team
VL TWR0xx 08/88. Built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing in the UK and air freighted to Australia for Bathurst. After exitng Bathurst with suspension damage was repaired and used for a test session at Calder in 89, before Holden shelved its ATCC campaign. Resurrected for Percy to race in 90 Sandown and Bathurst enduros. VL PE009 09/89. Built by Perkins Engineering and raced by Larry Perkins at Sandown and Bathurst and by Win Percy at Adelaide GP. Sold to HRT and raced in 90 ATCC by Percy and at Bathurst by Neil Crompton. xxx VN 02/91. Raced by Win Percy throughout 91 ATCC and in the Sandown 500, except at Lakeside where Allan Grice filled in. xxx VN 08/91. Raced by Brad Jones in 91 enduros. xxx VN 09/91. Debuted by Percy at Bathurst. From here the history becomes a little shady. In 92 HRT ran only a limited ATCC campaign with Tomas Mezera using at least 2 of the VNs, instead deciding to concentrate on developing the VP. Either the 1st or 3rd car was pictured in the 93 Bathurst program being used to test the VP aero kit, being identifiable by the Australian and English flags on the rear door windows. All 3 were upgraded to VP specs with HRT racing 2 for Mezera and Percy in the 93 enduros, and 2 at the Adelaide GP for Mezera and Jones. For the 93 ATCC 2 were raced throughout the year by Mezera and Wayne Gardner. At the end of 93, the car that Gardner had driven was sold to Graham Blythman in WA, who raced it a few ATCC rounds and at the 94 Sandown 500. By 96 it had been sold to Geoff Kendrick who raced it up until 00, upgrading it to a VR along the way. It was sold to Fleet Motorsport and raced by Leanne Ferrier in the 02 Konica series. Peter Brock and Mezera in the 94 ATCC raced the remaining 2. The Brock car was raced by Jones in the 94 enduros, and Mezera at the Adelaide GP. After being upgraded to a VR it was raced in the 1st few rounds of the 95 ATCC by Mezera, before being sold to Peter McLeod who debuted it at Bathurst and ran it until the end of 96. It was sold in 97 to Simon Emerzides who raced it in partnership with Garry Wilmington. The Mezera ATCC car was used as the T car at Bathurst, and by Craig Lowndes at the Adelaide GP. It was then used by HRT to develop the VR aero kit. It was sold to Michael Hart who debuted the car at Bathurst 96. By 00 it had been sold to Terry Wyhoon who raced it in the Konica series in 00/01. G Lawrence raced it in the 02 Konica series. 030 VN 08/94. Debuted by Brock at the Sandown 500 and raced by Brock until the Waneroo 95 ATCC round, being upgraded to a VR at the end of 94. Sold at the beginning of 96 to John Faulkner Racing, but leased back to Brock for the Sandown ATCC round while 032 was repaired. Raced by Faulkner until the end of 98. In 99 it was leased to Cameron McConville for the Sandown, Ipswich and Calder ATCC rounds, Paul Dumbrell for Symmons Plains and Bathurst, and Gibson Motorsport for Steve Richards to drive at Indy. It was raced in the Konica series in 00 by Ryan McLeod and in 01 by Owen Kelly. 031 VR 03/95. Raced from Phillip Island ATCC round until end of 95 by Mezera, with Lowndes racing it in the enduros. Raced by Lowndes in 96 up until the Phillip Island round, and again at the Oran Park round. Following the destruction of 033, reactivated for Greg Murphy to drive in the remaining 97 ATCC rounds. Sold to Garry Rogers Motorsport and raced by Jason Bargwanna in 98 and Garth Tander up until the Symmons Plains round in 99. Sold at the end of 99 to Paul Morris Motorsport, and after the destruction of the team’s other car, raced in the Calder rounds of the ATCC. Raced by Owen Kelly at Bathurst, and in the Bathurst Konica race in 01 by Ashley Stitchbury. 032 VR 09/95. Debuted by Brock at Oran Park ATCC round and raced until end of 96 ATCC. Became Holden Young Lions car for 97, being raced by Mark Noske, Todd Kelly and Jason Bargwanna before being written off at Bathurst that year. 033 VR 05/96. Debuted by Lowndes at Calder ATCC round and raced until the end of 96. Raced in NZ races at end of 96 and 1st few races of 97 by Murphy, before being written off in accident at Phillip Island. Eventually rebuilt and raced in 99 by McConville at Symmons Plains, and Lowndes at Winton following the destruction of 040, and later by Lowndes at Indy where it again incurred heavy damage, and being a surplus car was deemed not worth fixing. Currently at HRT workshop. 034 VR 09/96. Raced by Brock from Sandown 500 until end of 97. Raced by Mark Skaife in 97 ATCC and Murphy at Sandown 500. 035 VR 09/97. Raced by Murphy in 97 enduros and Lowndes in 97 ATCC up until the Calder round. 034 & 035 both started the 99 ATCC season as the Holden Young Lions cars for Noske and Kelly, although Kelly’s was written off in the opening round at Eastern Creek. The other was campaigned by Noske until the Queensland 500. At the end of 99 it was sold to Paul Morris Motorsport. Morris raced it until it was destroyed at the Oran Park in 00. I am not sure which is which. 037 VT 07/98. Debuted by Murphy at Calder, and then used by Lowndes up until Hidden Valley round in 99. Sold to James Rosenberg and raced by Mark Poole from Calder round until Canberra round in 00. Sold to Paul Morris Motorsport, and raced by Morris from Queensland 500 until 01 Bathurst 1000. Sold to Greg Murphy Racing in NZ and fitted with 6 litre Chev for use as a ride car. 038 VT 09/98. Debuted at Bathurst by Murphy and then raced by Skaife in 99 until Winton round. Driven by Lowndes at Oran Park round and Queensland 500. It was then raced by Todd Kelly at Bathurst and in the 00 ATCC sprint races. Sold at end of 00 to Romano Racing, but then leased back to K Mart Racing for Murphy to race up until the Adelaide 500 in 01. Paul Romano raced in remaining 01 races, and a few races in 02 and 03. Leased to Paul Morris Motorsport for Wayne Wakefield to race in the Canberra and Oran Park rounds in the 03 ATCC, and to Phil Scifleet for the 04 Eastern Creek race. 040 VT 06/99. Debuted by Lowndes at Sandown round. Written off after barrel rolling at Calder at only its 3rd meeting. Eventually rebuilt as HRT ride car. 041 VT 09/99. Debuted by Skaife at Oran Park and raced until end of 99. Raced by Lowndes in 00 series until Canberra round. Raced at Indy by Lowndes and by Jason Plato at Bathurst. Raced by Jason Bright until Adelaide 500. Transferred to K Mart Racing from Eastern Creek round and raced by Murphy for remainder of 01. Anthony,
Nicely done mate - but all sorts of bits and pieces not quite right in among the list - would take all day to run through all of the various little bits and pieces but you are pretty much on the right track with the majority of the material - nicely bowled - just don't try and steal my thunder!!!! |

Noonz1,
Are you able to supply the chassis numbers currently being used by the teams in the main series. I was also wondering about the history of the Scott Loadsman car in the HPDC Development series. Thanks |

*****ie,
I'd be here all day to do that and giving away all of my hard earned research!! The Loadsman car is ex-Lansvale VX and sister car to the one that now is the K2 ride car owned by the Kelly boys/HSV. |

GMS/OO
GMS 11 was the ex SBR AU run by Lowndes when he joined the team...whereabouts unknown today? GMS 12 was the ex Colourscan AU run by Rodney Forbes and then sold to Terry Wyhoon. No GMS 13 GMS 14 was the green eyed monster built for Lowndes. GMS 15 was the Crompton car now owned by WPS Racing. DJR DJR 4 and 6 were sold to the UK, to Mike Newton I think, who also owns every Vauxhall/Opel supertourer ever to come here! DJR 7 is alive and well, raced by Peter Vicary in the TCC. DJR 8 was sold to Cam McLean, prior to the Paragon days. It got very bent at Phillip Island when owned by Phil NIchols, a few years ago. DJR 9 was sold to Ross Halliday and driven by Crick. It is now owned by Robert Tebb and was raced at Bathurst last year by Grant Elliott and Garth Walden. DJR 10 is still owned by Craig Harris. One of DJR 11, 12 or 13 is owned by Greg Smith and run in Fujitsu colours in the HPDC Series. One of them might be in the DJR musuem now. |

Appreciate the feedback, this is going from the notes that I have made. I have no doubt there are discrepencies throughout. Having been in the UK for the past couple of years I am doing so without the benefit of AA / MN or Noonz's histories in the Bathurst annual. All corrections / additions are welcome.

Which of the Gibson VN/VP's is the one that Skaife won the title with in 1994?

1998 Holden Commodore VN upgraded to VS
Hi Guys,
I have the above car in England which has Macker's down the sides and McIlroy (presumably the driver) on the rear side windows. I am trying to locate the driver to find out if the car has any history in the Touring Car Series. Can anyone assist? |

Try Photobucket, or Imageshack. Upload them to either of those sites, then link them to here.

GIO car started life as a VN in '91. Became the Moore/Gardiner Strathfield car for Bathurst '92.
