This is what I came up with since trying to find out more about this car.
Sold to Bob Bondurant? If so: > > 1970: Can Am. > 12/07: Watkins Glen: Bondurant; 14th. > 26/07: Edmonton: Bondurant; 12th. > 13/08: Mid-Ohio: Bondurant; DNF. > 13/09: Road Atlanta: Bondurant; 2nd. > 14/09: Bridgehampton: Parsons; 7th. > 27/09: Donnybrooke: Bondurant; DNF. > 01/11: Laguna Seca: Bondurant; DNF. > 01/11: Riverside: Bondurant; DNF. > > Crashed and sold to Mac McLendon. Rebuilt. > Sold to Herb Holtzmann. > 2003: For sale in Europe. > |

Bob Bondurant's 1970 T160 was owned by Jerry Smith, and was the car used in 1969 by Chuck Parsons, according to Pete Lyons Autosport reports from 1970.
Chassis 4 was for sale a couple of years ago, the accompanying photo showed the car in front of a transporter with "Eagle Industries Racing Division" logos, and the car carrying a race number 44, but as Charles as found out now, there was no race history given. As a bit of a long-shot, if the car has been restored to "period" livery, Jerry Hansen used race number 44 very often, and apparently had a T160, which he swapped with Fred Baker for an M6B in 1969. Hansen contested a lot of SCCA races, so maybe he used this 160 in those events. I've seen nothing on Hansen driving a T160 in the CanAm, only a T165 in 1970 - These followed the T160 chassis numbering, roughly in the range 22-25. |

The last owner of record was Herb Holtzman, owner of Eagle Racing.

Charles.
Suggest you get in touch with Lola Cars in the U.K. They seem to be friendly about their old cars , as you have a question mark against Bob Bondurant's name , may I suggest you try and confirm he actually was the first owner. Bryan. |

Lola sold through a distributer, but worth a try. The car was brought in the states through Carl Haas 8/7/68. From there it went possibly to Bill Oberhausen? 9/7/68 raced a couple times in 68 and Bodurant after that? Follow that trail and see if it goes anywhere.

I spoke with Bob Bondurant this morning. He remembers the car but not he serial number and has no idea if SL160/4 was the car. He did tell me that the car(blue, race number 21) he drove in 1970 was owned by Jerry Smith. Does anyone have any information about Jerry Smith?

Has anyone got information on the history of SL160/07 ?
It seems the car was raced in Supersports in the UK in the mid to late eighties. Thank you. |

SL160/7 was apparently driven by John Surtees in the Can-Am, and on and off in historic races throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Last seen in the hands of Jean Blaton ("Beurlys") in the late '90s

According to my photos and notes, Malcolm Clube raced it in 83, and then Ted Williams & John Saphir raced it the late 80s.
Alex Seldon raced /9 at this time aswell |

For what its worth Rod Leach ( Nostalgia) a classic car dealer in Hertfordshire had a road going version for sale in 1981 -82. This was not the Ted Williams chassis what became of this?

That was chassis 9 that I mentioned - raced by Alex Seldon 83-84, but don't know what happened to it after that.

Jeremy,
How did you find out the information on chassis number 9? I am curious as to where these are being documented that way? I am also looking for 163/18 and 163/19 information. Last edited by AZSpider; 9 Mar 2004 at 04:06. |

My info. on /7 and /9 came from seeing them racing in the early 80s. Rod Leach's advert in the early 80s gave the chassis number, and the fact that it was ex-Parsons (Like most of them?!), and converted to road-car spec.

Sl160/07
While searching for another T160 I met the original owner of SL160/07. The car was entered by WORLD racing in several Cam Am Races in the U.S. in late 1970 and 1971. The original log book was found for it if anyone knows where this car ended up. I talked to the seller in Belgium and he stated it was sold to an english gentleman.

An old Thread, but i can shed some more light on chassis numberSL160/9. It ran in the 1968 Can Am series and story has it that its the Chuck Parsons Simoniz Special.
I worked on this car back in 1978 whilst preparing it for sale by Rod Leach of Nostalgia, It was Road legal and registered ARO 846 S, it featured in an article in Motor Sport, August1979 where the writer was pictured being checked over by the Hertfordshire Constabulary on the A10 to ensure the paperwork was 'in order'. This article gives most of the known history of the car up until it was sold on by Rod. Dave Cox |

Re: Lola T160/4 : Gurney AAR CAN-AM car. Ike Smith and others have concluded based on photographic evidence and ownership history that I own the ex Gurney/Savage/ AAR Lola 160/4. The owner history and details of the ongoing restoration can be found at www.vintageracer.com. It’s not meant to be a serious website, but it does provide a medium to share the car’s history and the restoration journey.
