Single/Double Roll Bar Question
Back in the SRP/LMP days we saw a few cars like the R&S MKIIIC and the Dallara have both single and double roll hoops. How were they able to take one off and put the other on and have it strong enough to take a potenial accident?
It would seem like one would sacrifice structal rigidity by being able to take them off and on like that. Perhaps just use a single and add tubes might have been safer, if my theory is correct. How did they manage the changes and still have them strong enough? |

The double hoop on the Den Bla Avis Panoz looked strong enough to support a couple of elephants. It was enormous, but I do remember reading that this was a permanent fixture as opposed to the arrangements on other cars.

It all depends on the fastening points. Obviously they'd have to beef it up if it was a bolted joint rather than a cf joint, but it could be done. It's just weight and material, after all.

I believe that they were dummy pieces simply installed to create parity between the aerodynamically superior single hoops and the full on, r&s style roll "bars".
Off topic would a full roll hoop (Reynard 2KQ) be legal under the new rules this would surely be more efficent than the twin ring approach both safety and aero wise |

Actually no, the two hoops see less body work high up in the air. Twin hoops also mean less weight sitting up high.
