Britcar Endurance Launches for 2016 Season
Britcar want to bring endurance racing back to the UK. Teams wanted longer races and great grids so with this is in mind we created the Dunlop Endurance Championship.
The 2016 season will be made up of 8 weekends of 8 races with 7 to count towards the Championship. To help teams control the rising costs of motorsport we aim for all these to be one day meetings saving on hotels etc. Race lengths will range from 2 – 4 hrs at Britain’s Finest Circuits plus a Non-Championship 4 hr race at Spa Francorchamps. Cars will be categorised in one of five classes. The new system of classification will provide a more complete vehicle performance indicator, ensuring that you are racing against other cars of a similar lap time and not just similar engine power. The Dunlop Production Championship has been specifically formulated to bring Production Cars back into the Britcar Endurance package. Motorsport is an expensive sport so to save teams and drivers the cost of hotels etc we have tried to build the production championship around 1 day meetings. The 2016 season will be made up of 8 weekends of 16 races with 13 to count towards the Championship. 6 out of the meetings will consist of 2 x 50 mins, 1 round will be 3 x 50 mins and to finalise the Championship we 1 x 50 min Night Race at Brands Hatch on the Indy Circuit. Everyone’s favourite last round of the season!!!. Plus the drivers will have the opportunity to do a Non-Championship 4 hr race at Spa Francorchamps. Cars will be categorised in one of three classes, using the unique classification system. This uses not just the peak BHP / weight but also torque and modifications used on the vehicles. The new system of classification will provide a more complete vehicle performance indicator, ensuring that you are racing against other cars of a similar lap time and not just similar engine power. Full details of the new packages are now available from the website: http://britcar-endurance.com |

Hmm, why there's no BritCar 24 Hours at Silverstone?

James sold the Silverstone 24 hour race to Creventic but they're not running it to the same format as their other endurance races, I guess due to noise restrictions. As Rich quite rightly says its going to be far more of a touring car race than GTs - as you can see from the entry list:

I'm a bit confused. It says in your original announcement on here that they will all be one day meetings, but then your dates are released as two day weekends!

My assumption was that the practice/races would take place on one day of a two day meeting (as most now seem to be) and that at this point the precise day has yet to be set.

Endurance qualifying and race will be on one day; Production qualifying and races on the other day.

That TBA, would be lovely to have a round at the Brands GP loop too.
Just me being greedy, hope Britcar continues long into the future, ive missed it the past few years so looking forward to the nightrace next year. Simon |

Yes, days are limited and I would expect it to be pricey.
Britcar has before piggybacked a bigger meeting to get track time (GT open and A1 GP in the past) So there may be space on the Blancpain Sprint round for some activity? Though possibly not enough for the whole group of races. Additionally with all the national/international GT races at the start of the year this year the chances of teams competing in these series arriving and using the race as a practice diminishes, which is a shame as watching British GT teams take on GT cup (or britcar) regulars was/is always entertaining! The last couple of years has seen GT cup take the support slot for the Blancpain meeting on the Brands GP loop - and that's an MSVR championship so will get first shout on the GP loop I'd have thought. I'd have thought that the GT Cup and Britcar will to some extent be squabbling over the same competitors.

Since there won't be 24-hour race, would it be nice if there would be a 12-hour endurance race as an alternative?

Looking forward to Thruxton!
This country's got a bit of a problem with production car endurance (ie anything over 2hrs) racing at the minute. Cant help but think Britcar should be hovering up the clubbie teams who think the healthy team trophy is too short and creventic are too expensive/professional |

Britcar Update: 3 Dec 2016
Classification It is and always will be the intention of Britcar Endurance to provide drivers with a level playing field and a sensible class structure and to that end we will shortly be launching the new classification system that teams and drivers can use to establish exactly which class they will be racing in during the 2016 season. Devised by Rob Hedley, the online system will allow you to enter a variety of parameters and then tick off the modifications and improvements you have on the car - such as adjustable suspension, aero package, ABS, etc. - all building up to a Britcar Endurance Performance Indicator (BEPI) that the scrutineers will use through the season. When you're ready to start using the online system, please contact Rob (rob@britcar-endurance.com) for access. Dates & entry Fees Track time bookings are complete and it just remains to put the finishing touches on the extensive support package before we can release the entry fees for both of our championships: Endurance and Production. Event Packages will be available to those who are prepared to commit early to the new season by contacting Claire (claire@britcar-endurance.com) Autosport Show Our place at the world-renowed Autosport show, to be held at Birminghham's NEC on 14-17 January, is now confirmed - please take some time to visit Claire, Rob and the backroom team on stand 2641 in the main hall. Complimentary tea, coffee and snacks will be available to all Britcar Endurance guests. Spa We are still considering an extra, non-championship, late summer round at the popular and challenging Belgian circuit of Spa but need commitments as soon as possible. Please contact Claire if you would like to sign up for that in advance. |
