Top Gear 18th May
Enjoyed the prog as usual, but does anyone have any idea what Jamie Oliver kissing that bloke was all about?

Apparently so.
And that James May is incredibly annoying. |

Didn't get the point about the new Roller's radio. Is it permanently tuned to Radio 2 or something?

With the Rolls' radio, it looked like the front panel flipped up or down revealing all the complex tuning (etc.) buttons, but you got a single big button on the outside just for turning the radio on and changing the volume. Very neat.
Of course, even the earliest Rolls-Royces had voice controller wirelesses, you just told Your Man to turn it up a bit. |

The current James May seems to have evolved somewhat from the very poor imitation of Clarkson that appeared on the 'old' TG a few years ago.
He is a bit annoying, but don't you find that's actually part of the entertainment? The other (shorty) guy seems to be getting much better too - definitely warming to his job. |

--Rant Begins-- James May is a different kettle of fish! He realy me off! When he was talking to Richard in the deal part of the show he sounded so extremely fake and scripted it was unbeliveable. When Jason did it, it was seemless. And I swear he see's himself as Clarkson! He trys to act funny but he's just so dull and boring and he acts a bit pompus if thats the word im looking for. He realy does annoy me. He's not funny, He's not Clarkson and he's not entertaining. --Rant Ends-- Last edited by Bluebottle; 21 May 2003 at 20:41. |

Yeh he's entertaining.
Richard Hammond has improved massively, he doesn't gasp and go on like he used to on Men & Motors now. |

Whats happened to the fat bloke who told us about at the bargain cars and that?
He was quite good I though, giving some actual insight into getting a bargain! I really enjoy the show and the new format, although it's now mre chatty/funny rather than analysing cars. But I like it. Would love to see them thrash some "old skool" hot hatches around the test track, and then rate which one was the best! Ya know - Pug 205 1.9GTi, Golf 1.8GTi, Fiesta XR3i or RS Turbo, etc etc! O'd love to see that! :P |

Think you're being a bit hard on James May - he's only had 2 programmes, give him time to get into it, and he seems OK at the moment. The thing I like is that TG was the top rated programme on BBC2. Until it gets a new controller, who decides to scrap it. Typicak Dykette, anything that's good and not pandering to lesbian wheelchair-bound Inuit is not diverse enough and is dumped. So everyone decamps to 5th Gear, and a new controller brings TG back twice as long. So thanks to some treehugger we get 1.5 hours of motoring weekly on the telly rather than 0.5. Stick that in your hemp pipe and groove to it. Last edited by Bluebottle; 23 May 2003 at 06:36. |
