Riley Imp should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Silverstone Historic Festival June 4th.-6th.

Have I missed something, or am I confused ? C&SC for March 2004 page 8 has a feature on the return of the Historic Festival. It seems to indicate a return to the Coys type of event, club displays, autojumble village etc. Historic racing includes Thoroughbred GP Cars, Group 4 Prototypes and Group C sports racers. No mention of Vintage or pre-war cars. Is it intended to have team races with pre-war LeMans sports cars, have any further details been published yet ? It is in the VSCC Calendar as a two day event, presumably Friday is for practice.
Chris.

I presume it's the 2004 version of last year's two-day HSCC/VSCC meeting.
As for it being a return of the Festival, time will tell

I think they were refering to the BRDC meeting on July 31/August 1st.

This sounds too good to be true. Being the weekend before Le Mans is not ideal, but...

It sounds like the usual selection of good races too! Apart from the lack of a coupe of pre-war races.

I believe the dates are correct. There will be pre-war classes, although I am not sure of details. It would appear to reflect an ambition of the BRDC to put on a real show. The suggestion is that released from the management responsibility for the circuits sold to Jonathan Palmer, the Silverstone team have the capacity to devote to the event. Await further details I guess. Looks like becoming an extremely crowded calendar of Historic events.

Sadly, Silverstone is still under the mismagagement of Octagon/Interpublic or whatever the name is today.

The BRDC still own the freehold of the property and organise some events.

Murray Smith was mentioned in the feature. It is to be hoped that his involvement will bring the improvements needed. A good guy everyone says.

The "news" is as follows.2004 will be a sort of "halfway house" event, due to lack of time etc.But there should be a good turnout of car clubs.A good variety of racing is being promised. The plan is to bring a PROPER Historic Festival back to Silverstone as before.

which will be good news! If its the BRDC meeting in June then its on the Int rather than the GP circuit which is a shame

Oh Dear!

Looks like there is still a degree of uncertainty over the content of this meeting. Let's hope that the details of the meeting are decided and published soon, and that it is the basis of future VSCC events and not "modern" festivals promoted under the auspices of another club.

Duncan

June is a combined HSCC/VSCC/BRDC meeting on the Int circuit but the BRDC festival was going to be 31 Jul/1 Aug but it looks like its been cut back to just 31 July

Details are scarce!

Simon

The Silverstone Calendar gives the following details:

June
July
August

Personally, I'm glad to see that the VSCC is sticking to it's own terrority - races mainly for pre-War Cars with a couple of invitation races for early post-War Cars. Let's leave it to Coys (and their successors including Lord March) to organise the post-War festivals.

Ted

Next time you see Murray give him my regards - we did some IMSA business together a few years ago in Canada. In fact I'm still historic racing a Lola Atlantic I bought from him.

I notice you trade as Ferret. Thought you might be interested in a sports racer by that name I was slightly involved in 40-odd years ago - http://ferret.homestead.com

Derek

PS - "Walker, from Gloucester" - you weren't involved in the Villiers 250cc engined single seater calld a Walker were you? I drove one of those once. Pity. Put me off single seaters for decades!

This meeting is now only a 2 day meeting on 5th & 6th June, reason being lack of officials and medical staff.

so how does that effect the timings? it should effect me too much as I was only racing Sat and Sunday. Will they cut the HRSR race from 45 mins to squeeze another race in then or have some been lopped off the card?
