Big surprise in NHRA Drag Racing

Last week I was surprised to learn that Mike Dunn and the crew chief has fallen out with Darrell Gwynn, owner of the new York Yankees Top Fuel dragster. Dunn finished up a close second to reigning king Kenn Bernstein. With the season almost ready to start the timing was terrible for a driver change. However, Gwynn took only a couple of days to name Aussie Andrew Cowin to the seat. Cowin has been racing the family owned K&N sponsored dragster and now steps up to one of the top teams in the NHRA. Cowin already hold a couple of records by being the youngest racer to ever make a final round and he did it at the prestigious Indianapolis U.S. Nationals round. He also holds the unofficial record for the fastest teenager when making a 4.88 second pass at 313 mph back in 1999 when he was the tender age of 19.

Way to go!

Emfa should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It's in the blood. Graeme Cowin was one of the biggest names in drag racing in Oz - ever. I think he has been overseeing Andrew's career, and seems to have done a fine job at that as well! As ever it is tough to see a team go through this sort of 'turmoil,' as someone always loses, but it is a great opportunity for Andrew and I hope he does really well.

Last year he missed 8 rounds due to funding, and still managed to finish 10th inpoints. That is impressive and its easy to see why Gwynn thinks he could be the man for the job.
