24 Hours of Nürburgring 5th - 8th May 2005
This weekend there's that other big European 24h event: the 24h of The Ring. There are some interesting cars in the race. For exampale 2 factory BMW M3 GTR (last 24h race for this car at the Ring), a beautiful Porsche of Alzen Motorsport (with Jurgen & Uwe Alzen and Peter Dumbreck), Nissan Skyline GTR and a Honda NSX. In total there are 271 (!) entries.

I see from DSC that the 'Alien' is now four wheel drive, wow.
Also, the Skyline is nicknamed 'Godzilla,' so there is a Hollywood Monster theme going on. My oh my, this sounds like a fun event! robert Oh, go Swiss Mini Team!!!! |

Looking forward to it, but can anybody (even Alzen) keep up with the BMW? shame there are no DTM cars this year.
BTW - If anyone knows of any english TV coverage (I don't expect it to be live), let us know. |

What happened to the #30 Porsche?
I'm glad the #46 Lucas Luhr Porsche is leading, but I think the BMW's will win this deal. I can't believe the #6 Alzen Porsche had problems before the green.... |

The Porsche is still in the lead.
How many laps are they doing between stops? |

I just put the hour 6 report up. looks like most of the teams are getting about 6-8 laps per stint. But the weather is really unstable, and some teams have to come in earlier to change tires (To a diffrent compound) |

The Viper has dropped to fourth, any problems, or just a stop? It still seems running. It is about 20s behind the third place BMW.
I also see one or two are setting their fastest laps. |

yes, they ran out of fuel, and the crewmen had to push it in.
Drama for the Nr 1 BMW. they had to change the Clutch! they lost 6 laps, but still remain in the top 15. we have a short recap for hours 9-12 up. |

Man, what happened to the #46 leading Porsche? They lost 10 laps from hour 16 to 17? Also, why did the Skyline lose a few laps during the same hour?
A slight mistake by Duncan Huisman on the first hour almost cost them the race, now with 7 hours to go, the #2 BMW finds themselves with a 6 lap lead over their teammates. Go Zakspeed #77!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The Falken, while in 2nd place, had an accident (source: DSC) after runing over a white line
The Porsche from Manthey Racing had a mechanical problem, handing the lead to the #2 BMW (will this be Lamy's 3rd win at the ring 24h???) |

well, he had the best chances, being entered on both BMWs.
Really bad luck for the Manthey Porsche, being up there for most of the race. And that both BMW finished up front is a bit surprising after the midnight trouble they had. I wonder if the Alzens will go the "even more power" approach for next year or if they maybe have learned their lesson and will detune the Turbinchen a bit in order to actually make it reliable. |
