Powertour?

Okay, okay, it's not for me! A friend usually takes his family to a Powertour meeting at Silverstone. He's struggling a bit on finding out a timetable for the weekend of 5/6/02. Can anyone help?

Hi Lorna, it's a superweeknder at Silverstone 1/2/3 June includes GT,F3 and the BTCC package. Haven't seen a timetable yet but if it's like Brands the GT went out about 10.30 and the BTCC went out after lunch and then the other races fitted in between. Hope this helps a little.

Are you sure about 5/6/02 - if you mean 5th June that's a Weds. You've got the choice of 3/4/5th May which is the ETCC/FIA GT/Brit GT/Brit F3 or 1/2/3rd June which is BTCC/F3/GT

Don't have a timetable for the FIA meeting yet, BTCC is as follows

Saturday 1st June

Thanks Redshoes. I think he's on about another date. I very confused now! I'm gonna give up at this stage. He can continue to badger Silverstone himself!

There isn't a Powertour anymore, as its been discontinued. Its just known as F3/GT now.

Are the F3/GT meetings have the same kind of "family day" that the powertour used to follow? My friend took the whole family for this reason (not a motorsport purist at all) and he is just trying to find out what is on the timetable for the 5th May meeting.

If you mean the dancing majorette, stunt shows and general sillyness, then they've all gone. Your friend must have been one of the 3 new people the format brought in.

As far as the 5th May meeting is concerned it's an FIA event so I believe any form of 'fun' is actually banned. If you like watching long periods of nothing much happening then it will be right up your street.

Red, Didn't think a timetable for the Silverstone Superweekend had been finalised? Or is what you posted the Brands timetable?

If so, and it stays the same as Brands Hatch, so much for a different series highlighting at each meeting.

No we're back to decent racing with no extraneous stuff; not even grid girls for F3/GTs. Mind you the best race at Donington yesterday was the 2nd VW Cup race with a 20yr old Mk1 Golf GTI mixing it with a Mk3 after the top Beetles fell by the wayside. The Diesel Golf came 10th by the way

It was a good programme overall with F3, GT, VW Cup, TVR, Caterhams, FFord, Classic Porsches (and the rain kept away)

Jason, that's the Silverstone schedule as provided by MST/TOCA at the start of the season. That's not to say it won't change between now and then, especially after the complaints from GT teams about their early start time.

As far as highlighting different series I don't believe a word of it. No offence to GT/F3 fans but I got the impression that Brands was very much a TOCA/BTCC meeting with some extra guest races. Even the Brands media office kept refering to it as a BTCC meeting. Somehow I can't see that changing for Silverstone.

Fully agree about the F3 and GT's being seen as a support race by toca. I spent 3 days at Brands alongside the organising club, and as the F3/GT series have different organisers, definitely they are a support event. I always had the impression that each round was supposed to have a different series as it's main race, I now know otherwise.
