Kev_205 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Valencia - why?

There's been something bugging me.........

....if Valencia is a circuit that hides a lot of problems with the cars, why do teams bother testing there! Surely they are only kidding themselves?

Or is the point that maybe it hides performance increases from the other teams as well so only the team know if they made a gain in testing.

Because where else in Europe can the teams test without bad weather in Winter?

McLaren tryed Silverstone yesterday and got snowed out !

I would say that Valencia probably is cheaper to test cars at (circuit hire wise), then Barcelona and Jerez.. Hence why you see many teams testing alone at Valencia.

It masks high speed aerodynamic problems - but can be good for tyre testing, which is what it is primarily used for.

Well, i don't think it 'hides' a lot of problems with cars any more, or much more than any other circuit does. Valencia does not play into the hands of a car with a brilliant engine - whilst circuits like Monza does.

And i don't think teams are going there to kid themselves. What is the point in putting a car on the track to not properly test it.

I am sure using the circuit is justified.

I suppose you could say that Monza 'masks' acceleration problems, and Monaco 'masks' top-speed problems, and so on, so perhaps Valencia testing is valid if taken in conjuction with results at other tracks. Its location and surrounding weather stream makes it likely to produce dry running, and I suspect it is cheaper to test at, because it's a newer and less-established racetrack. Also, it allows certain publications and press releases to give out fast laptimes even if the car is not generally capable of them.

It is considered good for Monaco testing - lots of "traction moments" and slow speed corners. Suits a tidy chassis and high total downforce level - doesn't pay out so much for high horsepower or good high speed cornering.

Thw weather issue is primary in choosing Valencia I guess.
