Shell not to renew naming rights for V8 Supercars ?
I've heard a rumour from somewhere that the V8 Supercars will be the Shell Series no more ?
Does anyone have more info on this ? Cheers Buck. |

wow ...first ive heard of it..i thought Shell were very happy with the series and the way they are being promoted ...and i thought they were signed up until 2004 or something like that ?
I hope they dont pull the pin because its such a great marketing tool for them ... how many years have they had the naming rights anyway ??? |

Shell became naming rights sponser of the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1987, the same year they became naming rights sponser for DJR, and they have never left either.
I really hope they stay the series sponser, but i suppose times change, Carlton & United Breweries have been linked before with series. So we may be saying CCS next year. |

Well, they already have the beer sown up.
At Bathurst you could have VB or VB saves arguments i guess

I read an article in a news paper saying that Shell was giving up the series. If this is true do you reckon the same thing will happen as what happened with bathurst. The V8 Supercar Australian Touring Car Championship along with the V8 Supercar 1000. I don't like it. Is this what Tony Cochrane believes is moving foward.

It's pretty much an open secret that Shell have given up the naming rights, and they have been taken over by CUB. Have a read of the press release in regards to the series returning to Perth- it read something along the lines of "we're going back to WA thanks to CUB..."
Times are a changin, aren't they? |

Cochrane, declining profits, criticism of the racing (well if you can call it that) - take your pick.
This has now been rumoured for at least the past 4 months and hasn't been very strongly denied. I think part of it is the inflated cost AVESCO would be asking for the naming rights BUT consider that CAMS are now starting to again look seriously at the amount of clout AVESCO have taken on for themselves - expect to see a few more court appearances soon. |
