Beam Splitter
Can somebody in the know explain what the beam splitter is? If its something that needs attaching to the car etc has someone got some regs for it? It would be for a production saloon car.

I know what it is in place to do - but as a novice at hillclimbing, from other areas of motorsport, can someone tell me what its made of, where it should be exactally, how it should be held in place etc etc. |

acording to the Blue Book (which you will get with your license)
Where timing is activated using a light beam vehicles will be fitted at the front with a vertical timing strut, minimum vertical height 254mm the bottom of which shall be no less than 180mm and no more than 200mm from the ground The strut will be matt black on both sides over its total area which shall be no less than 254mm by 51mm the timing strut shall be the part protruding furthermost forward most salloon car drivers utilise one of the number plate mounting fixings to fasten the strut |

It has become an integral part of our sport without which we would probably still be timing in tenths! |

As already said the blue book will give you the dimensions you need and it needs to be black. I make mine out of balzers wood which is very light (can be bought from a model shopor similar) but have a look around the paddock - you'll see many, many different "constructions!"
