He lowered the lollipop quickly and Jenson didn't react that quickly... I've seen drivers just inch forward, not stop 20 meters further...

Since James Allen has said that 'lollipop man' is childish and needs changing, can we call it the 'James Allen', if you get my drift? |

Clearly this is a revelation, but the incident discussion is here: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...t=82510&page=5
Even James Allen knew this and said so at the time. |

Yes John! I think I get your drift, you mean like some people need an 'idiot board', others may need an 'Allen Board' (or should that be bored?)
Anyway, what's wrong with 'lollipop man' it probably baffles Johhny Foreigner, and is a typical British idiosyncracy. Let's not flatter 'Fat Boy' by giving any of his suggestions creedence. |

Unless they get a new one, I think we should call the Honda lollipop a stick...

Millions of whatevers are spent on finding that last tenth of a second and the drivers get let out of their pit box by a guy wielding a lollipop.Room for improvement there i think.

DTM style mechanical boards or even something as simple as the team talking the driver through the sequence on the radio (which I'm sure they already do) would remove 12 men from the entire pitlane during a race, safer and probably more effecient. I'd be amazed if drivers need the lollipop to know when to stop considering they're surrounded by their mechanics in the first place and the turn in could easily be signalled from the pitwall. It remains the simplist way of doing things, but let's not pretend it's the only and best way. Last edited by Silk Cut Jaguar; 27 Apr 2006 at 00:14. |

a number of team managers/bosses (Ron Dennis) or Chief Mechanics have been lillipop men because no one else wants to do it. |

I think that once the pitstop has been carried out and the lollipop is lifted the driver should have to wait for a further period of time before he moves off,to allow the crew to retire to a safe distance.During that time anything untoward should be spotted and the lollipop is lowered again. This isn't speeding things up,but it will make it safer. |
